And just to make it clear, all of the options are separate purchases, these are;
* download version direct to your computer from our on line stores
* Purchase the hardback rule book from our on line stores, these will not be available at retail
* purchase an iPad version from the Apple store

And no you don't get other versions for free if you buy one, sadly our application to register as a charitable foundation got rejected :-)

You obviously have learned nothing from Nokia's Elop.

I'm guessing (again) that this cost is still a lot higher than the original plan of "not" designing a book for any form of printing whatsoever...

Aboslutely.

There may be no difference in the cost of "designing the book", but surely there's a lot more to the total cost of a book than the "cost of designing". Is the whole idea of "economies of scale" a myth? I guess Walmart and Amazon didn't get the memo.

But it's print on demand, so the "total cost of a book" is just the cost of designing the book.

That's great. Thanks for listening to your players.

Can you give us any idea about what it will cost and when it will be released ?

What about doing a package deal for the first two, i.e Hard copy plus soft copy for less than the total individual selling price of each ?
People buying the hardback might also buy the PC version at reduced price when they would not have paid full price, so this could well result in higher total revenue.

Aren't you referring to the "production costs" (i.e., printing on paper, binding, etc.) and not the "design costs" (i.e., page layout, design, formatting, proofs, etc.)? Surely the printable file does not materialized from the air when a POD request arrives and that it does take some cost to develop the file? Hopefully those costs will be attributed to an anticipated production of several books, otherwise I'm looking at one book costing several thousand dollars.

http://www.wadeincreativity.com/pricing.htm

Using the design costs for the above site's "top shelf" costs as a low-ball estimate (and I'm betting that FoGAM will be more than that based on the quality of the production) that's $4K for the design. If you print just one book it's going to cost $4K. If they anticipated a thousand copies....no problem, it's only $4 per book.

The kids you can have for free, I'll pay you to take the wife. The dog's useful though.

The separate versions will need to be purchased separately as there are different developers involved so different revenue shares/royalty reports. We'll probably be able to offer a discount for PC/Mac and physical but we are unable to offer anything on the iPad as apple forbid it and we'd be banned from their store.

In terms of dates:

- in a roundabout way Young Mr McNeil said October. So within 28 days. Albeit he was no doubt guessing a bit.

- he also said they want to go all together. So that's whenever the slowest of POD/PC-MAC/iPad gets their act together (that'll be iPad then).

- so once they've agreed a date with them, they'll rub a bit of Brasso onto the Slitherine PR trumpet and we'll get a message saying when.

- then about twenty people will start moaning that they can't advance order.

- it'll turn up in mid November I would think.

I'm really looking forward to v2. Like Tom Petty sang, the waiting is the hardest part.

Thanks for all the hard work, guys!

I'm sure they do but that's not the point. The most recent delays stem from you playing catch up with the POD option which you originally didn't think your customers wanted.
