Since your comments were aimed at Cold Wars and this thread was for Fall-In which you have said you are not attending, I planned to address your suggestion for 900 points at Fall-In to see who wanted to play at what scale. However you seem intent on insulting me and the folks you have played with for years, namely Kevin and Walt. I consider a tournament a success when people tell me they are having a good time, that is my only measure. In addition to the tournament I also want to see growth in the hobby. In this case that would mean trying to get new people to play and getting folks who used to play to try playing Renaissance again. In this case that means getting folks who used to play DBR and now play Flames of War to play in the FOGR tournament.Scrumpy wrote:My comments were aimed at COLD WARS and 2013, or is that something you failed to spot ?
I merely asked if Bob was going to stick with his usual cronies from DBR days, or let the general public in. Simple answer is let Bob run the 25mm for his group, and let someone competent run the 15mm for those who wish to 15mm. I was merely suggesting both Marc & Dan as they successfully ran a tournament at H-Con and more along those lines could be offered to 15mm players.
As to what you think it takes to be competent or incompetent as far as organizing goes I'm not sure what your measure is? Attendance? Getting notices in the PEL and the Brochure? Understanding the minutia of the rules? Or could it be agreeing with every one of your suggestions? I suspect the last is your measure, but I'm sorry, running a tournament means balancing suggestions from individuals with the counter suggestions by others. Some of your ideas may be adopted, others may not. Just because an idea isn't adopted at one tournament doesn't mean it might not eventually be adopted at another. I have always tried to get input from both electronic forums like this and from actual attendees. However, I put more value in attendees since they are the ones who are actually packing up the lead and travelling.
Lastly, let me suggest to you Paul that if you want other people to agree with you when you want to suggest change, calling them incompetent is not the smartest way to get them to agree with you. So I'll just end this reply by saying that I will start a thread for Cold Wars 2013 so that hopefully we can just continue to post here for Fall-In which was its original function before it got sidetracked.
