ok, here is my pathetic attempt at converting the world to my way of thinking...

Consider the 10mm figures. They look fantastic on the table and you get to make little dioramas... AND you get to put the pikes in with pikes lowered without it causing problems.

You can 'double base' the two front ranks and have them right up the back of the 30mm base, and then you can have them tilted forward at 45 degrees with minimal impact on the 'pain in the arse' factor.
