1. The AI seems to be much better than than the AI in FoG RoR... or maybe I'm less skilled in this game. I've found that you can't take liberties or you will be punished (at Colonel level).
2. The campaign aspect is both challenging and frustrating. If you start badly then you really pay for it in later battles. This has meant I have had to replay many of the early battles many times just to get an army to compete in the later scenarios. Again this may be related to my skill level in this game or my understanding of how the campaign works. I do feel that it would be nice to be able to purchase some units to supplement your army. For example, if you lose your artillery unit in the Poland invasion then you are stuffed in Norway, low countries and France. I suspect this is by design, but it really becomes a limiting challenge! EDIT: I've just discovered the purchase button. This is documented in the manual, but something I overlooked. It allows you to replace lost units and even add additional units if you have the money (prestige) and slots available. This is making the campaign a lot easier... it was tough completing many of the battles with half an army and often with missing unit types when I'd lost them in a previous scenario!
3. The game manual is very limited (quelle surprise
Overall I'd give the solo game a 'thumbs up' (which is much better than FoG RoR) and I look forward to trying the multiplayer game... although I expect I will get a serious kicking more often than not... and I look forward to the challenge!
I'll try to post more later....
