As far as I can tell, the file is identical. I still have a couple of things I want to look at. I would certainly try installing 1.5.1, and then just using the launcher to register your BF serial. It's worth a try!

I'm pretty sure that I installed BF first and then started the game and let the updater run. I haven't had any MP problems.
