We can tweak the CeaW since that's just a mod to the war in Europe. Making a different game like CPaW is another story. FirePowerJohan has made the original code to CeaW and using that code as a base to make a completely new game is probably not legal. CPaW would be a new game that's possible to sell and we don't have the rights to do that.

Tweaking a game that has already been sold is called modding and happens to many games. But some developers say no to any kind of modifications. For CeaW we can make changes to a certain extent, but not create a completely new game.

So we will not make any map changes to GS that would expand into USA or use the rules for a Pacific map. We simply don't own the code to do that.

Jan 19 1940;

I didnt post an AAR for last turn because all that happened was that I bought an INF for the French. This turn is a bit more interesting as Ronnie has just knocked out Holland and I have to do British research. Speaking of which, I bought another Air and Naval lab for the Brits this turn.
Image

In terms of movement, I deployed my new French INF into the forest south of Lille and railed the GAR back to the Maginot sector. I'll save my French PPs again for another INF - even if the weather goes clear on the next turn, I can still afford to wait for it. The Syrian GAR has made it to the port of Toulon, so its available to be railed into the french second line next turn.

The Canadian MECH has finally completed the trek to Halifax port so I'll be able to get that in transit next turn - I havent decided yet whether it will go to Britain or to France, although I'm leaning towards France at this stage. No signs of Ronnie's SUBs so I'm not sure whether he intends to use them to support the land campaign in the near future or whether he's just been missing my convoys. I've got two closing in on Britain now so I'm hoping that at least one will get through (check the mini-map).

Finally, I took the british CV off of sentry mode this turn so that it can fly air defense to Lille or the units west of it.

I downloaded the demo for Storm Over the Pacific last night. I'm hoping it may be close enough to CEaW to be worth buying.....

I didnt bother posting last turn as nothing much happened and the weather was poor. The weather is again poor this turn (Ronnie must be thinking that the weather gods have abandoned him or have become pro-allied) but I do have a few things to do this turn.

Two convoys got through (although Ronnie just destroyed the northen one at its spawn point) so I have over 100 PP's in the kitty. I've decided to purchase a General Lab with focus on IND to try and accelerate my PPs and LAB production. I hold over the rest of my PP's - my manpower has just reached 75% for the brits so I'll be able to safely repair my FTRs from now on.

With the French, I deploy the INF I built last turn into the forest hex south east of Reims to make it harder to crack. The Syrian GAR which arrived last turn is railed into the hex south east of Rouen. The French have 18 PPs but I decide to hang onto them.

The Canadian MECH is now just one turn from port (see minimap) so next turn I will have to make a decision on whether it goes to britain or France.

Well the clear weather has arrived and Ronnie has DOW'ed and conquered Belgium in one turn as expected. Ronnie's assault has however revealed the disposition of his air units, especially his TACs. As a result, I've decided to move the french ARM back one hex so that it cannot be struck by a TAC whilst in a low readiness state. I've also decided to pull a couple of the french GARs back so that no unit can be hit from more than one hex not behind a river. The end result is that I have a double line from Rouen to Strasbourg (for the time being ;) ).
I buy another French INF this turn.

The two british FTRs are now activated and the carrier is put on sentry as I want to keep it back for ground striking (it has better shock and survival). I have 72 PPs and 76% manpower so I can afford to try and disrupt the German assault a little. The French FTR stays down for the time being as it has a lower max readiness and so is only useful when the German FTRs are not at full strength (plus its costly to repair and I'd prefer to spend french PPs on repairing INF or the MECH).

I finally made a decision on the Canadian MECH and sent it to Brest to assist the French. It or the INF have to make it back to Britain.

Now I wait to see what Ronnie does - I'm expecting him to target Lille and the GAR north east of Rheims.

Ronnie went for the GAR as expected but also decided to hit Lorraine next to it, making the push through the area east of Rheims (and reducing my French resources). I readjust my line, pulling out of the hex north of Rheims. Ronnie has plenty of options where to attack this turn so I'm not sure which hexes he will choose to attack. The area west of Rheims has british FTR cover but Ronnie may choose to keep pushing east of this. As I noted earlier, this doesnt cause me any concerns one way or the other, its just the way of things.

A feature of Ronnie's play is that I dont expect my ARM to get too many good attacking opportunities but I need to keep it intact as long as possible to ensure that it provides a threat that makes him continue to play carefully (and therefore slightly more slowly).

Well the opportunity I have been waiting for has presented itself. Last turn, Ronnie assaulted Rheims and Lille but failed to take both cities (a 1 and 2 step french INF survived) - more importantly though, his forward FTRs took damage and were reduced to 6 and 9 steps respectively. This gives me the opportunity to use my CV and undamaged FTR to pull both of them into air combat by striking at his ARM north of Lille (which gives me the benefit of damaging his ARM too and chewing up valuable PPs.)

I launched my CV first as it has the best chance of damaging the ARM (1:0 forecast vs 1:1 for the FTR) and I manage to take 1 step off of his 6 step FTR for no loss and do 2 steps to his ARM. My FTR then strikes at the ARM (now a 1:0 forecast) but suffers and 2:3 result against the 9 step (*grumble*) but I do get to inflict another step on the ARM and knock its readiness down to yellow). Overall, not a bad result as his ARM is now poor, and he is left with a 5 and 7 step FTR to escort any TACs into Lille (his 10 step FTR is 1 hex short). I repair an 8 step FTR back to 10 so I'm left with it, a 10 step CV and the 7 step FTR (the latter I hope wont fly now).

With respect to the front line, I'm forced to evacuate the 1 step INF out of Rheims back west of Paris (out of sight and bomber range), whilst I reinforce the Lille INF back to 7 steps and the INF north of Dijon back to 7 steps (looking very shaking at orange readiness).
The british MECH strat moves into the hex south of Rheims (behind rivers) whilst the french INF that was there moved north east of Dijon to restore a river line and make a german advance there harder (more ZOCs). The french FTR rebases south of the MECH to add another ZOC to the area (I put it into sentry mode as I want to limit the damage that can be done to it).

The french BBs conduct shore bombardment, taking a few steps off an INF and a GAR.

There was a vacant hex southwest of Lille - I railed a GAR into it to congest the area further and reduce by one the number of hexes that can be used to attack Lille or the forest hex south of it.

Anyway, thats about as good as it gets I think - the Germans cannot be stopped, just slowed and made to pay PPs, so thats my sole objective in this campaign.

Ronnie's turn was pretty devasting in that he managed to do more damage to the british MECH and french FTR than I expected - I'm assuming he got a few lucky combat results (I havent shown the situation at the start of my turn as I'll assum that you can check his AAR).
Anyway, I was expecting to pull back to the Seine River line this turn but my units are more beaten up than I'd hoped for.

Image

I rail the Rouen british GAR into Dijon to try and project a ZOC west of the city and the French ARM moves to the flank of the french FTR, which I'm forced to spend all of my PPs on repairing (*ouch*). The ARM is not within the German TAC shield at this stage and should present a reasonable threat to any German breach of the river line next turn.

All of my other units north of the Seine River pull back behind it apart from one GAR that doesnt have enough MPs. I've rebased a british FTR to France to provide intercept cover over my MECH although this wont stop it being belted by TACs. The british CV launches a strike against a German INF near Lille to lure a German FTR up and gets a useful 2:1 result, and takes a step off the INF.

I expect Ronnie to destroy the british MECH this turn as he can hit it from 3 hexes and has two ARM and two MECH available, so he should be able to also peel away the French FTR or the GARs behind the MECH. The bottom line is that Paris is 2-3 German turns away from falling (ie Jun 27 or Jul 17 if I'm lucky). Its now just a question of how many PPs Ronnie loses doing it.

June 7;
As expected, my MECH was destroyed and the french FTR beaten up with damaged air units on both sides.

I decided that it was time for the french ARM to strike but I needed my air to weaken the lead German ARM. To do so, I decided to draw the German FTRs up using my CV and London FTR who struck a GAR that I shore-bombarded with a french BB. This was pretty successful in that I not only drew the FTRs up but got the better of the exchange too. With two of the 3 German FTRs out of the way, my france based british FTR struck the ARM but suffered 3 steps in an air-combat encounter (only did 2 in return) and then took another step from the ARM. The british STR then followed up by doing 2 steps to the ARM which allowed the french ARM to move forward and at 5:2 forecast, do 4:2 in damage.

Image

My other units just shuffle about trying to restore some semblence of a line (I railed a 1 step INF from the Maginot to Rouen!) and the british INF pulled out of the front line to allow a GAR on the wrong side of the Seine River to pull back.

It was pretty expensive in PPs for both sides but I might have bought France another turn. Its definately my last hurrah though as the british now need to rebuild and get ready for Sealion (the Canadian INF is a turn away from britain now), whilst the french ARM should be destroyed this turn, or at least severely beaten up.

The screenshot is not actually the end of my turn as I realised that the second french BB could shore-bombard the german GAR I had been working over, allowing the french GAR in Rouen to attack it - the GAR survived with 1 step.

Do not forget to counterattack with French GAR in the Maginot Line, which you cannot move or rail away. They will not inflict much damage, but especially against German GAR they can do 1-2 steps of damage each round, which Ronnie will have to repair.

BEF may be left easily (if needed), because looks like France will hold for couple more turns, so all shedules for 1940 sealion will be failed.
Another option is to rail it somewhere like Brest or Cherbourgh and start entrenching.
Also maybe its worthy to ship garrisons to all western French ports - it can be annoying for axis to smoke them out.

Ronnie as expected destroyed the french ARM :( and managed to take out the remnant of the french FTR too (was always a possibility) and has cleared the Seine River line east of Paris, so I'm down to one or two turns definately now. Given this, the french begin launching their last ditch attacks in the Maginot area, with a french INF managing to attack an It TAC and achieving the forecast 4 step losses on it. My GARs however are far less successful and mainly blow themselves up (take 5 step losses each for only 1 result - forecasts were much better than that but thats life).

    Image

West of Paris though, most units dig in (the 1 step french INFs are taken back to 6 steps), although a GAR rails into Orleans from the Maginot area and an INF and a GAR move one hex east towards the back of Paris. The BEF meanwhile makes a run for Cherbourg whilst the RAF occupies the western french cities. If France falls this turn, Ronnie may end up only being as far west city-wise as Rouen and Orleans...... British BBs move into position to protect the escape of the BEF whilst the CV heads for Plymouth for repairs.

The Canadian INF arrives in Cardiff harbour this turn and I decide to build an INF to bolster my Sealion defences. You cant see it on this map but the french and british SUBs move into positions on the east coast of britain to block possible transport landing locations.

The british GAR in Dijon just keeps digging in - he may attract the attention (and oil) of a few TACs post FoF.

This is the situation at the start of my Jul 17 turn - Paris/France has fallen - I was right to undertake my FoF preparations.
    Image

None of Ronnie's forces got as far west as Rouen-Orleans so he has got a bit of a trek ahead of him to take out the western cities that my planes have occupied (although an ARM can make it to Rennes).

I withdraw all of my forces from France this turn, except for the two GARs (one stuck in Dijon and one in Bordeaux). The INF I built last turn is deployed next to London along with a GAR that I move there. The BEF arrives in Portsmouth harbour whilst the Canadian INF arrives in Cardiff city. I build another INF this turn as well.

The STR goes north as this position allows it to protect a convoy just arriving but more importantly, it allows it to fly to Bergen if Ronnie DOWs Norway. My SUB has taken up position next to Norwich in the hex that allows a transport to threaten four hexes - Ronnie will have to sweep this aside with his DD or if I'm lucky will simply bump into it with a transport, either way I'm not fussed as a valuable turn will be used up.
MY CV and a BB battlegroup have taken up station near Cardiff - the CV is in port so that it can take replacements if it suffers damage during air battles.

    Image

Last turn I forgot to mention that the US built an Air LAB whilst the Russians bought an Air LAB with Dogfight focus.

Anti-Sealion preparations continue this turn with the Canadian INF being railed to London and a new INF being deployed at London. The BEF returns to a heroes welcome at Portsmouth. My 4 step FTR is returned to 9 steps whilst my CV and other FTR receive dogfight upgrades (I got the tech level last turn) so the Spitfires are ready now!

    Image

In France, Ronnie used two air units to take out Dijon (ie oil) and moved two ARM units to Rennes (more oil, every bit helps me).

The brits still have 25 PPs left so I have a reasonable reserve.

The Malta FTR is at full strength and I upgraded it this turn. I didnt mention it but we had a small naval encounter near Benghazi over the last few turns as I had set a SUB up next to the port and an It BB ran into it, taking 4 steps of damage (none to me). I then attacked it and got a 2:1 result so the BB ended up down 6 steps (30 PPs?) Between that and the It TAC that has taken 5 step losses, the Italians have taken quite a dent early on to their PPs, which is good from my perspective.

Ronnie has DOW'ed Norway so it looks like Sealion is off of the table. In order to be a nuisance, I fly my STR to Bergen and ship a GAR into the harbour - I was a bit surprised not to encounter a SUB but I was prepared to take the risk as the GARs are pretty useless now that there will be no Sealion.

Not much else to report althought Egypt activates at the end of my turn. I just about complete the upgrade and repairs of my planes and SUBs.

    Image

PS: If Ronnie fails to take Oslo this turn, I'll fly my STR on to Tronheim and deny him the PPs from it for a while.

    Some nice advances at the start of my turn - principally the advance in ASW tech for my ships and STR, as well as the enhanced range of my air units;
    Image

    I thought I'd post the situation in Egypt at the start of my turn;
    Image

My forces are deployed defensively in case Ronnie decides to have a go down here before Barbarossa. My SUB has detected several transports arriving in Libyan harbours so they could just be defensive in nature but I'm going to be cautious for the time being.
From here though, my units are able to deploy into Crete in the event that Ronnie DOWs Greece.

I've decided to adopt a defensive posture for the time being as a) it will allow me to recover from the PPs I lost during the French campaign, and b) it will make Ronnie wonder what I might be up to.

I will probably take the opportunity to knock Syria out around May 41 if all is quiet in Egypt and then move forward when Barbarossa gets underway to see what he has left facing me. I'll then decide if Tobruk is going to be an objective or not.

I've included a screenshot of Norway where I only managed to occupy Bergen because Oslo fell on the second turn after DOW. My poor little GAR has attracted alot of attention from oil using units so the loss in PPs has been worth it.
    Image

I spend 95 of the british PPs on a STR for patrolling the Canadian coastline and spend the rest on upgrades.

My overall strategy will be to build a lot of STRs for SUB killing and bombing of axis resources. I will likely do Torch to threaten Italy from the west and to attract more units from russia in 1942.

    Dec 4:
Ronnie has gone for Yugoslavia this turn which is interesting considering the Winter weather (I happily provide replacements to the Yugoslav units near the capital). Also, a number of his German bombers are deployed in southern Italy suggesting a possible assault on Greece. I move my fleet to near Rhodes to keep an eye on the airbase - the basing of a FTR there will confirm an assault on Greece. I rebased the Egypt FTR to Cyprus to provide additional aircover.

    Image

Other than the above, I upgrade some ships and move most of my Atlantic fleet to near Scapa Flow so that I give myself the option of going after the German fleet that is shorebombarding Bergen. With his TACs in the Balkan's, only Ronnie's SUBs are an issue (ie possible trap) and they havent been attacking convoys. If they reveal themselves though, I might go after the German ships.
