We now use counters to represent cohesion state. The offset of figures has just proven unworkable over time. BLs and tightly packed BGs + the usual table knocks etc have been a headache

Hi,
I prefer 2A. I'm playing the occassional game of fire and fury and the counters (in the form of a token figure, broken artillery piece, ammo box, etc, on a small base or coin) works well to indicate unit state.
I'd prefer the rules to state that counters are used (provide some cardboard counters as part of the final pack?). In stating this it sets the standard. If people ignore it by mutual consent, then fine, but at least the expectation is set.
You'll find that people will get quite creative with the marker counters, using figures instead of cardboard counters in the end. From the DBM experience baggage at first tended to be quite scrappy but is now often very creative.

Not sure what people have got against markers / counters to show a units state - as the figures themselves are counters - pretty but counters. So just use pretty counters.
Also, if using figures it can be difficult to see what unit is in what state - especially id the table gets knocked or some such. In a friendly game not a problem. I have however played people in competitions were I feel it would be really hard work to check that they figures stayed in the correct cohesion set up - as it may be possible to 'accidentially' knnock them, 'oh sorry, silly me did not realise'..........
So preferthe rules to say - use counters unless both sides agree. The counters can be dead igures, cardboard, small stones etc - which will not detract from visual appeal.

No, counters only as far as I saw...Was anyone using figures to represent cohesion states at Usk?
The most negative feedback I got from passers by was that 'they didn't like counters'. This was echo'd on several occasions
... and too be honest they do look pretty crummy. Our games used glass beads for cohesion state and it really does detract IMHO.
figures would be a better alternative - but it would take some work. Donnington do make a whole range of casualty figures though. That could be a way forward

Hi
I am a compulsory marker man. (Having said that I did not take any markers to Usk and we had to beg steal and borrow)
I suspect that, over time, I will sort some figures out and put them on bases, probably round ones, with different types of figures denoting different cohesion levels.
Counters certainly do not detract from the game. Nor do they, to my mind detract particularly from the look of the game.
Cheers
