You need to thin shellac-based inks, like the Winsor & Newton range, with distilled water.

Ok so its not even done drying, and I already love the new Citadel washes. I picked up some Devlan Mud and Ogryn flesh today, and applied the Ogryn flesh to my Carthaginian Spearmen today and think it might be the perfect finishing touch for my first attempt at painting a unit.

Love it, can't wait to see how it looks when it dries (as it already makes me look like a better painter than I really am), and thanks again for the advice guys, sorry I took so long but I hurt my finger at work and couldn't paint. Grrrrrr......

I really like the Citadel inks - they are pricey but I love the results

I have tried the min-wax stuff and the heavy DIP stuff - but came back to the inks
There are other brands of inks out there that are cheaper

Once again thanks everyone for their input, it really helped and it really paid off. My first unit is nearly done, I just have to wait for the command section to dry then I will give them their final touch ups and some ink and base the unit.

All in all I was really impressed by the new Citadel washes they easily out preformed the previous inks and not only added a suprising amount of depth to the minis, it also (thankfully) covered my many mistakes. This first unit is likely going to be my worst painted as they represent my earliest foray into 15mm, but in all honesty I love this scale and now think I prefer it to 28 mm 40k models that I am used to. There is less detail at this scale, and the small size hides mistakes far better.

Sorry I took so long to get this done, but I hurt my middle finger on my dominant hand and had to take some time to heal. Couldn't play guitar or keys either, lots of reading, hockey watching and petting my kitty helped but I am glad to be back on the horse.

I will flock these guys up as soon as I am done inking and then I will take some pics. Also since it was my birthday last week I got some gift certicates, one for a hardware store which I turned into a scroll saw for woodbased scenery, and another into a bag of 4 Carthaginian elephants. I think the elephants will be the next unit on the painting block as their large size will be easier to attempt and make good practice for the other unpainted minis, (Linen Cuirass Spearmen and everyone in plaid Celtic Cavalry, which is some what intimidating.)

Thanks again, and if you guys ever find yourself in the Southwest corner of Canada, maybe bring your army.

Take care.

Hope you didn't damage your digit preparing for the olympic run :!:

No I actually did it preparing the olympic broadcasting center, it was extra ironic because I helped build the convention center it was in. It wasn't too bad of a boo-boo, just a painful bone bruise on the last joint of my middle finger, oddly enough right where the brush rests. But I finished that unit tonight and will flock their bases at some point this weekend.

Cheers

Hello I hope this post finds you well.

Sorry about the delay but I am a bit shy about my painting skills. But I decided to bite the bullet and link this thread to my craptacular blog. There is pics of the Carthaginian spearmen and some WIP Numidian Javelinmen too, feel free to take a look, but don't expect much in quality painting or writing.

Take care.
