The one difference between LH and other troops is that while with most troops you have to worry about what is in front of you with LH you have to worry about what is behind you. You need a clear area to evade into and you also have to be aware of how your opponent can herd you LH BG's by using restricted zones.

I do all this and they still ride me down in a straightforward chase - I don't generally opt to stand and fight even with Javelin/Lt Spear against Bow because the result can swing so easily and I don't like to take that sort of chance with my flank guards.

Back in 7th days I had 3 units of Alan Light Cavalry facing 3 units of drilled Teutonic Knights all at 2 inch distance.

Three knight charges, three caught and routing Alan units. This is not a new experience for me.
