The French under AlexDetrojan 55 have defeated the Imperials under speedyCM 62. It was a great game, very close to the bitter end. The proud French Gendarmes proved to be the decisive factor as they eventually ground down the Imperialist Gendarmes...they can now go back to Paris to show off to the pretty mademoiselles awaiting their return. On the other hand, and quite surprisingly, the Royal Swiss Kiels performed abysmally! They fragmented and broke against inferior Landsknecht Kiels...they will be sent packing back to the cantons of Switzerland with only half pay...we will think twice about hiring those cow-swiss! Great game speedyCM.

Good news for Alex: Paris is still French!

PeterThePainter’s French Army (37% routed) defeated Lascar’s Imperial Army (61% routed).

Two armies roughly the same size went head to head on a pretty flat featureless plain. My opponent felt obliged to attack so left the security of a small rise on his side of the battlefield to meet in the middle. The Imperial army was centred on Landsknecht Keils whilst the French had more variable quality heavy foot; mainly Landsknecht Keils backed up with a couple of tougher Swiss Keils and a couple of poorly motivated French/ Italian Keils. In addition the French brought some guns, the Imperials foregoing these for superiority in cavalry and lighter troops. The Swiss did their thing, which meant they could gang up on the surviving Imperial Landsknecht Keils . Meanwhile the Imperial cavalry swept the French cavalry away and promptly chased off the field after them. This left a unit of French massed crossbowmen to claim the MVP award by rear charging an Imperial Landsknecht Keil and contributing to their rout (which they were never going to achieve by shooting!).

Well played by Lascar if the Imperial cavalry had stayed on the battlefield perhaps the result would have been different.

Thank goodness for that. We wouldn't have been able to stomach Holbein pedaling his appalling German portrait paintings all over Paris!

Our game is coming along. We're decimating each other...not many of us left on either side now. So, it shouldn't be long for a result.

And just imagine what kind of horrendous retirement age the Germans would try to inflict on the poor Parisians.

GDod's French and Swiss Confederation of Cheese Tasters under General Creme' Brulee and Balsar Souffle have saved Austria from the intestinal ravages of KiwWarlord's Imperialist cuisine.

In a hard-fought food-fight in the Austrian forest where our devout Swiss cuisine connoisseur's cheese-ration was continually peppered with musket shot, Fromage came out the winner on the day.

Vienna is now safe in the knowledge that unpronounceable German dishes such as Zwiebelkuchen and federweisser will not be on the menu at Austria's famous eateries. Instead, Frog's Legs, gratin dauphinois, beef bourguignon, quiche lorraine, and bouillabaisse will replace the ubiquitous Königsberger klopse, Maultaschen, Sausage and Schnitzel, Sauerbraten, and accompanying Bumsmusik.
Vive la Fromage!

So almost everywhere the French are victorious, only Savoy remains loyal to the Empire.

Can the Valois achieve a clean sweep in the next round of the campaign, and claim they are the true champions of European liberty? Or will the Empire strike back?

All will be revealed soon as we move to 1530, a new decade and new challenges.

For the final round I chose Spanish-Imperial 1543-1559.
