Genoese Army Lists

May I ask you for a read list about the medieval Genoese army mister? The Genoese army on land seems been largely neglected by many authors, or they only focus on the crossbowmen but never mention the other parts.

I am afraid I cannot recall where I got that piece of information.

That is extremely unfortunate. I have searched many places and asked my friend who is studying abroad in Italy, but still can't find the records about the Genoese men-at-arms, though he gives me some records of Genoese pavisiers he has found, hope they will be useful to someone.

@ Dux Limitis : I don't know anything about the History of the Republic of Genoa.

Anyway, it seems that, for example, between 1393 and 1410, Genoa was under the protection of King Charles VI, then of Duke Louis of Orléans. French Knight Jean II le Meingre was the royal gouvernor between 1401 and 1410. So, French MAA came to Genoa during this period. And foreign Mercenaries from Brittany, England, Italy, Gascony, Dauphiné, etc. were also hired (condottieri ; compagnies d’aventure led e.g. by Enguerrand VII de Coucy, comte de Soissons ; Scottish archers...).

That such a wealthy city-state hired Mercenary MAAs (and other troops) at other times of its History is not improbable at a time and in an area of condottieri and compagnies d’aventure. To carry out sieges ? To conquer Corsica in 1553 ? To protect the city ? ... ?

There were hoplites and epibates, aside from archers, on the Ancient Greek triremes at some point. Weren't there any heavier soldiers than crossbowmen on the Genoese galleys of the Medieval time ?
