A late edition of the Yorkist Daily Yoodle reports that:-
Richard, 3rd Duke of York's tireless general, Gwain of Goodly Manor, has triumphed yet again over the feckless Lancaster claimants under Lascar and established once again his rightful claim to the throne in a tightly fought battle 60%-37%.

The Lancasterians took up position behind the hedgerows lining them with yeomen archers and interspersed with men at arms. Untrained archers took up position behind some hiding in a central wood. While a single heavy battery was stationed on a hill to the rear of the line.

Our brave Yorkists opened fire with two heavy and the two light batteries advanced while the archers, pike and men at arms walked forward at pace. Meanwhile, Yorkist cavalry with foot flanked wide both on their left and right. A terrible firestorm ensued with the Lancasterian archers initially getting the best of the exchange despite the Yorkists having superior numbers, and handgunners to bring to bear. At the same time, Yorkist cannon continued to do fearful damage on the Lancasterian men at arms stationed in the gaps and eventually made some headway against the yeomen lining the hedges.

By now both sides had had enough and neither commander could hold their forces back. A headlong charge and recharge ensued. However, God and luck was on the side of the righteous cause and the Yorkist cause prevailed.

For King Richard, Long may he reign.

P.S The battle was much closer than the percentage shows. The Yorkists though the battle was lost right up to the last turn. Well played Dave. I think the Lancasterian lack of artillery and inability to concentrate quickly due to the hedgerows were contributing factors in their eventual collapse

An embarrasing result, I put it down to the fact that the soldiery stopped off at the Stanley Arms on the way to the battlefield and completely finished off the supply of Thwaites ales... well that's my story and I'm sticking to it. (That and some cunning positioning of units at the beginning and clever follow up by KiwiWarlord)

I believe it was a case of seeing their rightful King. Hence, their reluctance to put up a fight. BTW...isn't the Stanley Arms publican Stan Down, husband to Isabel Neville, sister to Anne (Richard's wife)?

Wars of the Roses Round 1 Pike & Shot game Result

KiwiWarlord's Yorkist, 44%, Defeat Doyley50's Lancastrians, 66%.

Great game, we both had opportunities here and there until the Lancastrian right flank was broken after some drawn out manoeuvring and the clash in the centre, where the Lancastrians were smashing their way though, was held and turned by the Yorkists.

Wars of the roses round 1 fOGM result:
warrior230 (Yorkist) 26% defeats peterthepainter (Lancastrian) 56%

The Lancastrians got off to an unlucky start with severe losses from the Yorkist archers, closely followed up by dismounted men at arms and pike pushing hard into the center of the line, while mounted knights & lancers enveloped the Lancastrian right flank. Despite a height advantage, Peters center started to fall away rapidly, and although, the Lancastrians launched a ferocious counter-attack from concealed positions and woods on our right, it proved to be to little too late, and the remainder of the Lancastrian army collapsed in disarray, leaving the field to the rightful heir!

A good game Peter, in which it has to be said, I received more than my fair share of luck! The same set-up again could well play out completely differently... (but we'll gratefully take the result) 😀
Thank you for the game!

My result in the remaining game with Peter is far from certain....he's edged in front now by around 10 points....I'm on around 46% loss at the moment! he's playing very well, and times running out!

P & S
Lancastrians 40% routed beat Yorkists 61% routed.

The Lancastrians started well when their cavalry routed the Yorkist cavalry on the Lancastrian right flank, in a very fortunate manner. With the Yorkist army now vulnerable it seemed a relatively easy task to roll up the Pudding lovers. But now Warrior 230 started to fight in a way his cavalry had seemed reluctant to earlier and it became a slow grind to 60% as battle was joined all along the line. Well played by Warrior 230 it was a tough fight. The final score is somewhat flattering to army of the Red Rose as a couple of their units rallied at the last moment to significantly widen the rout percentage which had been much closer.

Here are the final results then.

P&S

KiwiWarlord's (Yorkist), 44%, defeats Doyley50's (Lancastrians), 66%.
Gdod (Yorkist) 37% defeats Lascar (Lancastrian) 60%
Peterthepainter (Lancastrian) 40% defeats Warrior230 (Yorkists) 61%.

FOG-M

warrior230 (Yorkist) 26% defeats peterthepainter (Lancastrian) 56%
KiwiWarlord's (Yorkist), 8% defeats Doyley50's (Lancastrians), 46%.
Gdod (Yorkist) 0% defeats Lascar (Lancastrian) 40%

Summary

Yorkists - 5 victories
Lancastrians - 1 victory

And here are the individual scores:

Lancastrians

Peterthepainter - 1 x 60% win, 1 x 60%* loss, 1 result to come, 126% damage inflicted on the enemy
Doyley50 - 1 x 40% loss, 1 x 60% loss, 2 armies broken, 52% damage inflicted on enemy
Lascar - 1 x 40% loss, 1 x 60% loss, 2 armies broken, 37% damage inflicted on enemy

Yorkists

Gdod - 1 x 40% victory, 1 x 60% victory, 37% losses suffered
Kiwiwarlord - 1 x 40% victory, 1 x 60% victory, 52% losses suffered
Warrior230 - 1 x 60% victory*, 1 defeat, 126% losses suffered

Outcome

Warrior230 defects to the Lancastrian camp, no doubt sensing opportunity and riches, perhaps revenge from within against his nemesis peterthepainter?
Lascar defects to the Yorkists, seeing their star rising and wants to be a part of it.
