You can put controls in place for Steam downloads. Under Settings > Downloads, uncheck "Allow downloads during gameplay". As an alternative, you can limit what time automatic updates are applied. Check the box for "Only auto-update games between" and set a time when you would never play (like when you are normally sleeping). You can then download the games at a time more convenient to you.

Thanks but it sounds like only a partial remedy, what we need is a Steam message saying "Update available, download now or later?" so that we have complete control over if and when we want to download.DarkBlueInk wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 5:25 am You can put controls in place for Steam downloads. Personally I only buy games from the manufacturers like Slith/Matrix, and only buy from Steam if I have to.

You’re supposed to always have your game up to date...If the game is not updated, there may be compatibility issues between the different versions.

Yes but like I said the 1.2.3 update has got at least one bug (Slith/Matrix acknowledge it) so until it's fixed I'm sticking with 1.1.21.terminator wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 7:32 am You’re supposed to always have your game up to date...If the game is not updated, there may be compatibility issues between the different versions.
Incidentally I played Combat Mission 2 for 10 years and it was never updated in all that time and played without a hitch.
My advice to manufactuers is to only bring out an update when one is essential to fix a bug.
And consider this- all the screenshots and tutorials about a game that are posted around internetland and on youtube are rendered invalid when a new update comes out because they only refer to earlier versions.

Then if you are playing with an un-updated version, your current screenshots are therefore rendered invalid ?PoorOldSpike wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 7:38 am And consider this- all the screenshots and tutorials about a game that are posted around internetland and on youtube are rendered invalid when a new update comes out because they only refer to earlier versions.

Possibly..terminator wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 5:54 am Then if you are playing with an un-updated version, your current screenshots are therefore rendered invalid ?
For examp, every shot I've posted in the PC2 forums has been from dear old bug-free 1.1.21, so they apply only to that version.
So I'm certainly not going to install 1.2.3 until the "white-bordered hex" bug is fixed.
And suppose I create more scens with 1.1.21, it'd be a waste of time putting them up for download by members if they're not playing with 1.1.21, see my point?
Another thing- what about all the stock scens and campaigns that were included in the original PC2 when it was released 2 years ago, are they all still playable after later updates?

Of course, some bugs have been fixed and some changes made. If you don’t have the latest update then you don’t have the 3 bonus scenarios ?PoorOldSpike wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 8:19 am Another thing- what about all the stock scens and campaigns that were included in the original PC2 when it was released 2 years ago, are they all still playable after later updates?

I rarely play stock scens and campaigns because after playing them once there's no point in playing them again because you know where the enemy is etc, it's totally unrealistic.terminator wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 8:23 am Of course, some bugs have been fixed and some changes made. Instead I'm a random generator nut because it throws up a fresh map and fresh units every time to test our awesome wargaming skills to the limit-
