Don't be silly I never suggested that.

As Nik has already noted cheese isn't cheating.

As with so many examples - presumably this is only an issue if the BG is routing at exactly 45 degrees - and the opportunity to wring some advantage from it is pretty slim.

So personally I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Indeed. Not something I'm going to lose sleep over - I'll concentrate on how to get them broken first 8)

No, not in so many words.

You want one of two things:

1 - be cheesy and follow the rules; or
2 - break the rules and not be cheesy.

Your choice Nik. Pick one. It's not that hard to choose. They are the only options open to you.

No, not in so many words.
Not in any words at all, however, if you want to read that into what I said feel free.

It livens up an otherwise dull afternoon - with apologies to the great Tom Lehrer :D

Nik, your comment was this:
nikgaukroger wrote:Your rout move is cheese.
So, being someone who wants to play the rules in a friendly and 'non-cheesy' manner I am bothered that you seem to consider my move cheese - since it wasn't intended as cheese, nor in fact is there any way around it without breaking the rules.

Please tell me HOW you would want me to rout.

I have a BG with the front edge at 45 degrees to the base edge. They rout due to Hand-to-Hand combat.

You only have two options open to you as I said before:
Comply with the rules and do (what you have stated as quoted above) a rout move that is cheese; or,
Break the rules and do a rout move that is more pleasing to you.

Please answer me how you would rout Nik. Don't shrug it off with a comment of "I didn't say that". I'm asking you a straight out question:

How would you rout your troops when they are at 45degrees to the base edge?

We all should be ashamed of ourselves for driving Nik to pick up the whiskey glass instead of the dice cup.

I really don't mind whether you do the 45 degree rout or the turn to directly face the base edge as long as it is done consistently.

However, I would say that everyone seems to be just turning towards the base edge and as the other option may involve "discussion" about the exact if somebody gets shirty I expect that is what people will play - the fact that on occasion it will break a rule will not, I think, be an issue.

I enjoy myself to calculate the angle where a BG "end their move as close to the rear table edge as possible" wheeling toward the rear table edge. This depend on formation and troops speed. I get a BG of 4 bases in a formation 2x2. HF come nearer always going straight ahead for any angle (of course in case of 90 degree there is no difference and in this case it should wheel). MF come nearer if angle is less of 42 degree, or more than 86 degree. I stopped here, but of course Cav and LF should wheel in a larger interval, LH even wider. Is there needing I say that I'm not suggesting this as a rule?
