Any overlap will do, even it is just a few years, because that will make it a possible historical ally. Yes, your example would be allowable in Classical Antiquity.rs2excelsior wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 1:15 pm Does the midpoint of the ally’s army list need to fall between the given dates (iirc that’s the rule for determining which section an army list which covers two sections goes to), or just have any date within the section’s range? I.e. would a hypothetical 5 BC - 100 AD list be an allowable ally for Classical Antiquity?

Re: Ahistorical allies . . .
Shouldn't the ally overlap with the dates of the principal army, not the overall range for the digital league period concerned? Otherwise there is still an anomaly of allies being ahistorical.

But they do, don't they? Otherwise it wouldn't be an ally in the game itself.

Being new to this it is a pleasure to see something being run so professionally. No small wonder that the numbers are going well.

That should be the case, but I seem to recall to my surprise when checking army and enemy army combinations during the last league season instances when it wasn't prohibited.

If you can find an example please post it on here so I can pontificate on it. I expect I will end up having to make another list eventually.

Cheers everyone. It has been an ambition of mine to reach 100 players. Never did it in FOG1 and it has taken 10 seasons to do it in FOG2.

IIRC Samnites can be an ally for some army/armies which do not overlap with Samnites. Not at the game atm, but doesn't for example some Carthaginian armies have samnites as a possible ally, even though that/those carthaginian army is outside the existence of the Samnites?
There are three kinds of people, those who can count and those who can't.

Yes, I have just looked this up. The Hannibal in Italy army is dated 216-203BC and they are allowed Samnite allies whose dates are 355-272BC. So there is no actual in-game date overlap. I assume the reason that Richard has allowed this is because although the Samnites lost their independence to Rome many of them joined Hannibal when he invaded Italy.Swuul wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 4:16 pm IIRC Samnites can be an ally for some army/armies which do not overlap with Samnites. So, in these circumstances the Samnite allies are allowable, both for specific historical reasons and because their dates are compatible with the Classical Antiquity section.

Re: Your choice of allies must fit the beginning/end dates of the section you have entered . . .
The example in question earlier today concerned the Parthians who have dates from 250BC to 225AD, a huge timespan of 475 years which straddles the cut off date between the Classical Antiquity and Late Antiquity sections of the tournament (1BC and 0AD). The allies picked were the Seleucids 166-125BC. The Parthians are an army choice in Late Antiquity, but the dates for the Seleucids fall completely within the Classical Antiquity timeframe, so they are not a valid choice of allies in the Late Antiquity section.
