Division C
Ironclad (Carthaginian) defeats MorkinTheFree (Pontic) 64-45
A superior deployment by my opponent, my early loss of three light units, limited space to deploy my cavalry/elephant wing due to terrain and the enemy's elusive but long flank of inferior infantry made for an unsettling start. With the Pontic light bows free to pepper any defensive stand and the central approach of their powerful pike formations (each one commanded by an enemy general) I opted for a general attack. The Carthaginians eventually prevailed thanks to the the elephants helping the cavalry to victory and the better staying power of my infantry generally despite his formidable pikes plus the gods of luck. Thanks to MTF for an exciting and tough battle

Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your result here . . .
To put things into perspective - that one cavalry charge and the follow up pursuits from the Galatian cav and warbands absolutely gutted my line. It was something like 4-5 units routed? The center was just gone. It had been a close game score-wise up until that point, but the Galatian cavalry decisively beat my own cav on my right flank, and my infantry response was too little, too late to prevent something like this from happening.Geoffrey.P.Smith wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 8:29 pm Division E
Geoffrey.P.Smith Galation 62-65 BC beat rs2excelsior Samnite 355-272 BC ; 51 - 13
A lucky break at the crucial time & place. It was a close battle until the Galatian noble cavalry unexpectedly passed a morale check from 4 javelin attacks, allowing a charge to the rear that effectively tipped the Samnites into a series of routs.
Good game, well played and with a suitably dramatic ending!
