Re: Season 9
Fringe armies...like Gauls, British, Persian, Egyptian, Thracian, Welsh, Scots, Irish, Dacian, Picts and countless other I can't think of?
No, don't go there...
Maps on the other hand, is a problem. I agree on that!
Not only do we see some occurring more than others, a lot of the maps are, to be frank, bad.
Seems put together haphazardly and without much thought.
Let players make maps and send to Slith. I'm sure there would many good maps in very short time.
Lysimachos started a tournament that had nine scenarios he had made himself. They were good but what I thought really stood out were the maps.
They had lots of rough terrain for sure, but logical and belivable.
I wish more of the maps were like those.
Or...set the point limit to 750. Buy only for 500 and then play the game on the biggest maps

Hi T
FOW and double moves are the most widely used options when playing, the normal (except Dave, who is slightly abnormal but a good bloke, nevertheless) and so we use them.
Many years ago, double moves hadn't been built, I think FOW was always on though.
In the tt game, double movesd are used in a similar fashion (inches though) and within ZOC (zone of control) of a general. As long as there are no enemy bgs stopping you from marching as they are within x distance.
FOW. In the tt game, you make moves, until you are happy with the outcome. Best to leave a single base at the original point of movement and also confirm with your opponent, eg I am now exactly 4 inches away from your knight unit.
Ambushes are allowed in the TT game. The player who wins initiative can place down 3 ambushes, up to the halfway point of the table. You use an ambush counter to show that you have an ambush in a wood etc. Although you can have a "dummy"? ambush counter. That is your opponent may think there is an ambush, behind a hill but you have nothing there. I think the player who lost initiative can ambush upto 18 inches in from his own rear edge. These are based on 6 x 4 feet tables. Not entirely sure about a 5 x 3 (3.5) feet table though.. You can not hide troops behind other troops in the tt game (unless of course the hidden battle group is in ambush).

Gday Eric
Thanks for sharing your FOG knowledge with us,very informative
Ambushes would be a good twist in the Digital game but the Map size per army ratio would have to increase. When i first startted playing this game i didnt bother with FOW and double moves and found this usefull agaist Cavalry armies but got a fair bit of abuse from palyers who didnt like it.So eventually to stop the complaining i started to play with the features on and have done so ever since. Occasionally i will play with them off and though its slower i believe there arnt as many bugs in this mode and the game seems more even. The Majority play with the features on so thats the way it is

Hey gamers
Hope you are enjoying, especially the newbies.
I think a while back somebody had opened a forum/link, with players usernames, real names and I believe location.
It would be good to find that and continue adding to the list, hoepfully in alphabetical order, eg Turk1964, Mark Thirkill, Victor Harbour, Australia.
Possibly a silly questionnaire every now and again, favourite drink (me, Oban, real ales, no to Malibu), bands/groups, Jimi Hendrix, Muse (not the last 2 albums though), Twin Atlantic (check these out a new Scottish band), etc.
In a TT comp a while back, you'd have a fantasy wargames team comp. You know liek football etc, best players, most expensive, limited budget to spend. That could be an added fun thang?
Games are coming in thick and fast so well done to all.
Cheers
Eric

Maybe FOW on and double moves off can be worthy to try?Turk1964 wrote:Gday Eric

Dave R turns over Epos. French Ordonnance 20/45 v Free Companies 38/35.
I have been playing with Double Moves on and FoW off. The key thing is that FoW off allows you to redo a move, which for me is quite critical as I often do things like move generals first to then find my troops can't double move as they are out of command range, which is a bit annoying.

A great battle well fought by both sides and at the end of the day no side had advantage. So we all sat down and had a pint and called it a draw.Well played Epos and thanks for a nailbiter of a game.Cheers Turk
