That's... weird :?:

I began my mod more than one year ago with a previous OoB version, so maybe the current version doesn't support creating campaigns with masks? It would be weird, but I suppose you guys have seen worse :/

Also, i vagely remember than when I began experimenting with the campaign editor I "deconstructed" some campaigns (some officials and fanmade), and began constructing my first campaign structures editing those files and not creating a new one from scrap*... Same with the TGA files. Maybe that's somehow related with the problem?

Also, terminator, did you try to creating masks for a new campaign in a mod, instead in the vanila version of OoB? Just wondering. When I have a bit of spare time this week i can prove a couple of things regarding new campaigns and masks and I will let you know the results.

*scratch

I want to try a new thing. As i wrote here before, I'm quite satisfied with one of the new scenarios I have been editing these last days. It is still not integrated in the campaign, but I though I could let it here in case any of you want to try it as a stand-alone. It is a quite small one, but at least for me was quite fun to deal with :)

Anyway, here it is. The core units are already purchased in the scen. As always, feedback is welcomed :)

https://mega.nz/#!PB8DFAQL!7_SrsrbNkFPS ... 1QItyOsk-0

Ok, so my next plans are to also finish the not-so-fun (for me to create) scen, integrate both of them in the campaign, tweak the mod a bit, and review and fix every bug and observation so kindly you made these last weeks in the new version of the mod (so hopefully v0.60ish in maybe three or four weeks) :)

Have a good week, commanders :)

I made my test with a campaign that was not in a mod.

I think the masks work with your spanish campaign because you apparently used an official campaign that you modified while I started from scratch.

If that's the case, the good news is that it would be easy to create new campaigns with the masks. And the bad news that those which already have a campaign quite advanced won't have an easy way to introduce the overlays in their maps :/

Well, if your think it won't be easy (i guess you're talking about campaigns created from the scratch in a state of advanced development)... it won't be easy :/

Anyway, I will make those tests in case i can find anything useful regarding the masks.

Quick question: anyone had noticed that in the condition "Check Hex Supply" the parameters "Percentage" and "Value" are changed? Percentage is value and Value is percentage :|

The search function in the forum is not working for me now, so i cannot consult previous posts, sorry :/

It doesn’t seem easy unless you remember exactly what you did to be able to reproduce the different steps

There are 3 Republican commanders available. Maybe add Franco and a couple more on the Nationalist side? Could be useful.
Just a quick note. A couple of nationalist commanders have been added to the mod, and probably a couple more will come. I still don't plan to use them in the campaign, but maybe they will be useful for your endeavours, Erik :) I probably put them under some kind of alias, except for Franco, which is too well known ever for non-spaniards to even bother. If you want the true identities let me know and i will write them somerwhere. Also, if you have any specific commander in mind, Erik, just tell me. If I can fin an appropiate photo for him, I can try to include him in the mod instead of my own choices

Thanks for the additional commanders.
I've got a winter campaign or two to finish before returning to sunny Spain.
Keep up the good work.

Hi, drewboy30!

The mod did work in a dozen (or so) computers, so the good news it's that it also should work in your system. Let's see if i can help you :)

If I understood you correctly, you can choose the mod in the first screen but the game freezes after in the main screen. So, here it freezes:

Image

Correct? A couple of questions:

-Did you download the last version (there are two links, one of them of a previous version who caused problems to some people)?

-Have you tried succesfully any other OoB Mod? Do you have at least one bought DLC (could be wrong, but i think you need at least one of this to run mods)?

-Do you have the last OoB version (8.3.0) installed?

-Did you try to run the mod with a different language? The mod works only in english, i'm afraid.

Quick update.

I have begun to correct the english of the 0.45 version and soon i will finish to implement every feedback you gave me, guys (thanks a lot again for that!). The new units are ready, with their new textures and so, and three of the four new scens are almost complete too. So i guess it's safe to say that a new version (0.70ish?) of the mod will be ready during March. And after that one, probably just one more launch until the (almost) final version of the campaign.

Today was a good day for TSP :)

Thank both of you :)

As before, new units are basically repurposed already-existing 3d models with new textures. I have tweaked some of the stats too. For example the Ju52 was used as a bomber in the spanish civil war (equivalent to the italian SM79), and the R5 (a recon in the vanilla game) was a tactical bomber.

Your models are good 8)

I did not see the republican paintings on the BT-5 ?

I do not know if it is possible to do something like this ?

PS: I do not know if this republican paintings on the BT-5 are historical. It seems that the Republican tanks had no specific paint ?

 Another solution maybe more historical :
During Spanish Civil War, the USSR supported Spanish Repulican forces with "volunteers" and tanks, including 50 BT-5 ones. They saw extensive action since late 1937 and some of them became Nationalst trophies with colorfull bands on the turret to avoid friendly fire.

Yep, you are correct, Terminator (or at least i have the same info than you :) ).

The republican tanks (both t26a and bt5) had no republican flags in the chasis, and usually were painted in just a dark plain green (depending on the sources, i sometimes found brown-green or olive green). For example in this reconstructed t26 of the current spanish army you can see the brown-green painting https://www.wikiwand.com/es/T-26 Sometimes they have painted some war motto (Viva Madrid, etc...)

On the contrary, the nationalist tanks (Panzer I and CV-33/35) usually used some sort of camuflage painting. Once they began capturing republican tanks (t-26 and bt-5) and putting them in use, they added the spanish flag in the turret as a way to avoid mistakes, friend-fire incidents, etc...

It's relatively easy to find modern ilustrations of the t-26 with the republican colors, but i agree with you and I think it is just a common mistake from people who discover the nationalist version with the red and yellow flag and think a republican version with the red, yellow and purple flag would also be cool. But i have never found a photo from the war with that kind of paiting for a republican tank. Instead, they looked like this

Another quick note, this time aboutthe tests i promised to do regarding the tga mask files for the campaign maps.

I spent a couple of hours yesterday and today messing with the campaign editor and the overlay files. I am not 100% sure because for some reason my vanilla version of OoB is extra-unstable right now and it crashes a lot, especially in the campaign editor (but that's not the case with modded versions of the game.... :| :?: ) and creating testing campaigns from scratch has been impossible, but anyway this is what i found.

It seems that the mask tga files, the overlays pictures that the game uses to create the effect of territorial distribution over the map in the campaign screen, only work inside mods and not from the vanilla version of the game.

I employed as testing campaigns the official Blitzkrieg DLC (with its own TGAs), the Erik's 39-40 Gemany (with the Blitzkrieg's TGAs), Finlands in WW2 (with Blitz's too) and my own campaign (with its masks and Blitzs). Executing these campaigns from the CUSTOM CAMPAIGNS option in the vanilla version of the game always results in the game not loading the masks. Even an official campaign with its official TGAs, like Blitzkrieg, loses them if you execute it throught the CUSTOM CAMPAIGNS option.

But if you execute these very same campaigns through MODS (I used Finland's and TSP) the masks files do load in the campaign map IF the campaign itself load correctly first (i guess that due to the modifications, it's not strange that TSP campaign doesn't load in Finland's mod, for example).

So, I'm a bit unsure at me moment if the problem itself are the mod vs vanilla versions of the game or some kind of shortcut that the game takes when it runs a campaign through the CUSTOM option, but the good news are that I still think it shouldn't be difficult to implement TGA masks to both a new campaign or a work in progress campaign.

Some disclaimers.

We speculated in this very thread some pages ago that maybe the loading of tgas could be somehow influenced by the fact that the designer created the campaign from scratch or by editing an official existing official campaign. I can not rule out his possibility at the moment due to my instability problems ( ) but I doubt that is the case since i used several campaigns and they behave in the exact same way. But since i don't know how the designers created their campaigns, i cannot be 100% sure.

One notable exception to my main conclussion is that the masks dont load from MODs like Forgotten Unit and GKMod. The funny thing reganding these mods is that both of them load their campaigns through the vanilla campaign folder, and not from their respective "Campaigns" folder. I have no idea how or why they behave like this, but i'm guessing Terminator or Gabe could tell us :) But my guess is that both mods load the campaigns through the vanilla campaign folder, and therefore mimicking the behaviour of the vanilla OoB (i know nothing about programming, so i'm not sure if i am saying something reasonable, but i hope i can make myself understood at least).

Agree. Great work with the textures. 8) :D

But BTW, you took the Italian L3/35 Lanciafiamme tank from Admiral Horthy's mod, not Horst's - those are two different forum members.

Your commander images look fantastic, too. The style fits right into the game. On a personal note, I'd like to ask a favour, if I may. For some time now I've been "dissatisfied", so to speak, at the very least, with the depiction of Gen. Orde C. Wingate in the Burma campaign (commander_89). I've even started a "Petition for Orde" thread (   ) to initiate a change.
So,if it's not too much to ask and only if you're interested and you've got the time, of course, maybe you could do a new pic of him? One where he doesn't look that old and broken and hobo-like. I'd appreciate anything you could do in that regard. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing, nice info. :!:

Sorry, but can't really help you there. I don't do scens and therefore I'm not very interested in campaign-related problems/changes/mods and did not much testing there.
My mod is meant primarily as a "player's mod", to be used to play stock or custom scens/campaigns. Not to create new stuff. That's why the "unique_scenarios" parameter inside the "mod.txt" file's set to use the vanilla campaign folder instead of the mod's.

But you did help! I didn't know (or most probably, i forgot) that the unique_scenario parameter worked that way. That explains the different bevaviours of the mods regarding the masks, and does support my theory regarding when, how and why the tga work.

For example, the official DLC campaign blitzkrieg runs without TGAs in the terminator's Forgotten Units Mod (left) but if i edit the mod.txt unique_scenarios to true, the very same campaign in the very same mod loads correctly the overalys (right) :D Now it works!

Hope this helps Terminator and others who wanted to include overlays in their campaign's maps :D

Thanks, it's great to hear that you like my commanders :) I indeed try to get something as close as possible to the official commanders, but the results are widely variable, I'm afraid, and personally I am not that satisfied with my own work :/ Creating portraits is not that time-consuming, but as I have no drawing skills, I am 100% dependable on finding a portrait with the proper lighting, framing and quality to create something barely tolerable. I will have a look to the Orde's thread. After all the help you offered me and others with our projects, the least I can do is try, Gabe :)

Let's say it clearly - the USSR didn't support Republicans for free, but sold equipment and was paid in gold.
