Re: Dossier Tool
It works !
I still can't explain the behaviour. If I open the archive as a normal folder with explorer and drag and drop the files to the destination folder, when I try to launch the exe it will crash. If I extract the content of the archive with 7zip, it will work. Either windows can't deal with this type of archive properly or the antivirus interferes somehow with the drag and drop process, since I have already added an exclusion to the destination folder. Anyway, it is working now, and it is working with your previous versions. Thanks for your patience.

Re: Dossier Tool
No problem. In that case it is very likely your antivirus messed up the exe. The zip is a standard windows zip format, so that cannot be the issue. Glad it works and ah well, at least I got the error handling even more bullet proof now.

Re: Dossier Tool
I have finally started using your Dossier Tool.
Everytime I started a new campaign I always forgot about it.
Well, not this time. So far it's much, much better than my old method (a table on a word doc).
Only one request, quoted from page 1:
It's odd to see Artillery before Tanks, just to give an exemple.
1.Panzer-Division
Artillerie-Regiment 1
Panzer-Regiment 1
Schützen-Regiment 1
And after closing and opening the dossier the order of the units changes.
Not a deal breaker but it would be nice.
I'll still use this excellent tool as is.
Thank you for all your work.

Yes, I really would like to be able to order units in no specific pre calculated order.KeldorKatarn wrote:The units are ordered according to hierarchy and within the heirarchy alphabetically. If that is not what you want, let me know. I might add some way to reorder them.

Re: Dossier Tool
I'm planning a major playthrough on youtube and I might use the tool myself. If my health allows (having major eye problems right now), I'll try to add some more goodies to the tool and I'll look into offering a different style of sorting or deactivating the sorting. if it comes down to it I can of course also give you a custom implementation but I'll try to get it done as an option of some sort. But forgive me if I don't do that right off. Previously that would have been work of a few minutes maybe, but working a lot with text on a screen is a nightmare these days, so I'll have to take that slow and wait for good days on which my eyes can take the strain.
Otherwise I'm glad you enjoy using the tool
Also sorry I didn't release the tool with the historical German flag. I'm actually using that one myself but being a German I don't really feel comfortable on having such a "release" lying around on a server, containing a swastica flag. I might get in trouble for that if anybody wants to give me problems. Historical or not.
Otherwise I'm glad you enjoy using the tool

Re: Dossier Tool
No worries. And no hurries either.
That sorting feature would be nice but it's not that important. If you ever do it fine, if not fine as well.
Actually, that feature should be in the game itself. I don't know why the game still uses the same type of unit list as the original PG 20 years ago.
As for the flag, it's fine as it is.
Some sensitivities are silly. I mean, I can understand why you don't want to wear a swastica on the streets but, for crying out loud, this is a WW2 wargame.
Anyway, I don't want to get into an argument with anyone about this. It's not that important to me. Your flag and the flag in game are good enough.
I still remember some discussions on CIV forums wether the gentleman whose name starts with A and ends with F should be included as a leader or not.
Although they are not on the same league, I'm portuguese and I never minded that Salazar was included as a portuguese leader.
I want no more discussions on this subjects. It just doesn't matter enough.
Just in case someone wants to accuse me of anything, polliticaly I normally lean to the left.
Sorry to hear about your eye problems. Next time I'll write less so as not to strain your eyes too much.
Hope you get better soon.

Re: Dossier Tool
Got nothing to do with sensitivities, it's about legal issues in Germany. It's not 100% clear whether releasing this for a game is illegal or not, but I really don't want to walk the knife's edge here.

Yes, I know about the legal implications.
Still, no problem. It's good as is.

Re: Dossier Tool
@Predoc: Where did you install the tool ? Maybe in C:\Programs or C:\Programs(x86) ?
Here the tool doesn't get write privileges from Windows (maybe an explanation for your warnings from Win 8.1)
If yes, try to to install it in a subfolder of your PzCorps directory.

Re: Dossier Tool
That can't be the reason. the tool doesn't need any write priviliges. I have in in the programs folder too. that's where programs belong.
I do not have WIndows 8 however so I cannot test this

Re: Dossier Tool
Also maybe make sure the files of the tool are not write protected. sometimes downloaded files get marked as readonly for some reason in windows. That can screw with things. Other than that I neither know why the tool wouldn't be trusted or why it would just "hang". It should either work or crash with an error message. All I can recommend is making sure all the files are where they are supposed to be. WIthout an error message it's very hard for me to have any idea what's going on. Unless Win8 screws with things however the reason for a crash is almost always a missing file.

Re: Dossier Tool
Ok I have checked the stuff you said.
I have made a 2nd seperate install of that programm in order to check if it is disturbed because it is in the panzer corps - folder.
(ahh and I use the steam version of panzer corps!)
1st : No write protection
2nd : Copied everything from data and from UI into content-folder (got much of disk space so why not)
3rd : Paused my Firewall 'n stuff
4th : use compatiple mode with various versions of windows.
Not working.
Then I read what Keldor said.
IT WAS a security problem. Not with the .exe. (That would lead to an error)
the .dll were prohibited to work!!
You'll need to check every .dll and at the lower right there is a button (no idea what it is in english - mine is german) to allow the .dll that it can work (security risk, because it is from another pc)
Very well. it works now!!!
Thank you very much (!!!) and I hope that nobody else get that prob.
If, then there is your help.

Re: Dossier Tool
Ah ok. Curious, but yes I was already guessing that it worries about downloaded DLLs. Glad you found the solution and thanks for posting it here
Edit: Oh and of course: Have fun with the tool

Re: Dossier Tool
You mean the "Advanced" button for special permissions under the Security tab, Predoc ?
That shouldn't happen, as i mentioned , if you use a custom folder (where you have all rights by default).
Which UAC setting do you use.
The highest setting may cause problems, so the second highest setting (which is Default) is recommended.

Re: Dossier Tool
no I mean the button below the "advanced" IF the .dll is not allowed to work!
My UAC? Didn't change it at all! Might be default.

Re: Dossier Tool
Maybe useful, if you're fit in english:
http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-ti ... windows-8/
But as i mentioned, you should avoid fiddling with access rights.
Instead (again, i know...) make a custom install folder for games and tools.
There you have all rights by default, because you're the OWNER.
In the 2 Standard win programs Folders (32 and 64 bit) your rights are severely restricted by default,
to prevent viruses spreading or "dummy" users destroing their system...

Re: Dossier Tool
As a developer I consider this bad advice. The program folders are restricted to what a program should be allowed to do. it cannot write to the programs folder because that's what the user folders like MyDocuments or {User}/AppData are for. Recommending not to use those folders is in my opinion bad advice. Any tool that can't run smoothly in the programs folder is a badly written tool. There is NO valid reason why any program wouldn't work in one of those folders.huertgenwald wrote:Maybe useful, if you're fit in english:
