Re: Britcon FoG:R
Indeed, congratulations to John and thanks to all my opponents for putting up with me learning a new ruleset
I will certainly look to enter more FoG:R events in the future. The only question is how I will manage to fit them in.
John's massed bow armed warriors shocked me with the lethality of their shooting. They are a lot better than they are in FoG:AM. Running into them the game after I walked over the top of poor Richard Young's Eastern Forrest chappies was not ideal, my troops just assumed they would be rather like them and were rudely awakened then they came too close.

Re: Britcon FoG:R
Just got home and still shellshocked by it all. In a strange way when reflecting on the games I am convinced I made a lot of mistakes and in a some games my dice were unbelievably good to the point of embarrassment. I have probably played better and lost.
Six great games against six great opponents who played all the games in a great spirit. If I had to pick a game it would be the one against Alasdair where the whole thing took place at a blood and thunder pace with the game going to the wire. One of the most enjoyable games I have played in years even although I lost. It is great to watch Alasdair use his army.
I am not convinced I can replicate my wins with the Sudanese again as the surprise factor is now well blown.

Can I just add my thanks to everyone for a great weekend.
Out of 6 games I only played one person I had played before in FoGR comps.
Really looking forward to Warfare.

Re: Britcon FoG:R
Thanks also from me for 6 great games.
Thanks also to all of you for hardly making any umpire calls at all.
My only comment would be that I spoke to several people who, like myself, are finding the 6 game format increasingly onerous. We are none of us getting any younger.
When the comments forum is opened up on the BHGS site, I will be requesting that the format be changed to 5 games, 1 on Friday evening, 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.

Re: Britcon FoG:R
Once again a great weekend. I had 6 good games, unlike Don only one new opponent. 3 wins, 3 losses, no unfinished games!
Congratulations to John for winning with an off the wall army.
Commiserations are due to Ben, who finished on the same score as Richard and Andy in equal second, but lost out on countback. Also to Richard Young who brought an unconventional army and suffered from meeting a string of opponents that it was really unsuited to play, but remained in good spirits throughout the weekend.
It was great to meet some overseas players, thanks to Matteo and Jacques for making the journey (and also to Jacques for a really fun game).
Thanks also to the organisational team for maing the event work.

Re: Britcon FoG:R
Yes thanks to all the players and organisers for making this a great competition. Thanks to my opponents for educating me in the ways of FOG R and putting up with my lack of knowledge. Got rogered by a large elephant and made to look like turnips against the suedes, but all good fun.
Congratulations to John and extra thanks to Ben for lending me thoses ever so usefull regimental guns . Hope to see you all at the next FOG R comp.

Re: Britcon FoG:R
It was indeed great fun. I knew I was going to be a speed bump before the competition and did bomb spectacularly. Why did I chose that army?!!! Heaven knows. Anyway, it was great meeting old acquaintances and thanks to all my worthy opponents. On to Warfare then........
Cheers
Richard

Re: Britcon FoG:R
Glad you had a good time Matteo and well done for coming over.
The thing I'd change is the late finish on Friday - set a time limit instead. Playing until midnight means that you're tired before the weekend has really begun.
Me too - it's what sets Britcon apart.PS: I liked 6 matches

Re: Britcon FoG:R
I agree that 6 games is good, but I would suggest that the extended lunch break on Sunday can be dropped. If the traders want to sell then they can be onsite after 5pm on Saturday, or heaven forbid, before 930 on sunday? A sunday schedule which is 0900-1215;1245 -1600, with a shopping frenzy from 0815-0900 would be far better. Friday should run until 1130 at least, but the reality is that unless britcon returns to Aston or Loughborough then a friday night game will always struggle because of the traffic.
The quiz pushback to 1030 from 9pm didn't help fatigue either....
Thanks to all for a good comp.

Re: Britcon FoG:R
Considering that things have changed from previous years ie no Thursday opening and the smaller size of the event floor space wise. No accomodation included with entry.
It maybe a good time for a discussion as too dropping it down to 5 games 1 Friday 2 Saturday and 2 Sunday.
Just cause it was always 6 games is no reason not to discuss this feature considering at the other changes this year.

Re: Britcon FoG:R
There will be a feedback form on the BHGS website in the near future. One of the things that will be included is do players want a 6th game or not. I suspect that there is a split and a lot of players really like 6 games while others don't even attend because they hate the idea of 6 games.

Re: Britcon FoG:R
Must admit, I usually feel quite cream crackered after the six games. Alternatively as I do not get many games outside Scotland my chances of playing games against the better players from down South and from overseas are limited. Having travelled I might as well get as many games as possible at Britcon.

I like 6 games, it's what differeniates the comp from the others.
So is everything in the mix, like location.
cheers
