Division E
Stew101 (Arab Conquest 638 - 684 AD) beat Tratmot (Andalusian 756 - 1049 AD, wIth Spanish allies) 55 - 28.
This was also a very interesting and enjoyable game.
It was much closed than the score suggests and a game where I think we may have both changed our initial plans.
Cosimo took up a really strong position at the start of the game and I thought I was going to have to re-run Picketts charge circa 1000AD.
That's where the Andalusian lights changed the game. They were swarming all over my Arabs, but they were going to need support eventually, so the Andalusian foot moved forward.
A Heroic defense of some rough ground by my Dailami, allowed the Arab spearmen to their right, to do their stuff & the Arab lancers to eventually find some flank charges.
A couple of extra bow shots might have changed this whole battle, a very close game.
Thanks very much Cosimo. Good luck in the other games.

Division C
devoncop (Andalucian 756 with Spanish allies) beat MikeMarchant (Ghaznavid962AD with Turkish allies) by 40% to 5%
A whirlwind of a battle. The Andalucians massed almost all their archery on an imposing rocky hill on their right which fortunately for them was directly opposite the mass of Ghaznavid and Turkish Cavalry, which after failing in an initial probe to bypass the hill to the right attempted to redeploy across to the Andalucian left but were too close to the "storm of arrows" (TM) and were heavily disrupted as the Andalucian Lancers arrived in force at a charge. A few turns later it was all over.
Thanks to my opponent for a short but dramatic game.

Division D
Swuul (British 600-1030 AD with Viking 780-899 AD allies) beat baldrick52 (Indian 546-599 AD) 51-10
A flat map with two large forests, one in pretty close to center, and the other on the left flank (seen from the britisih point of view). The indian army started in open terrain with a couple small forest patches, and opted to wait there instead of engaging the british wading through the forests. This suited the british excellently well. On left flank the british light cavalry clashed with the indian lancers who decided to fall back; this allowed the british medium cavalry to get into flanking positions, and the numerically superior indian cavalry was engaged and mostly routed. On the british right flank a smaller indian cavalry detachment was checked out by the raw spearmen. Thus when the mainlines met, british medium foot was able to envelope both ends of the line. One elephant crashed through the british line, but this only meant the british hordes could now pour through the gap in center too. The final couple rounds were brutal, as the indian troops were attacked from front and flanks, units broke, panic spread, and practically their whole line routed in one go.
Thank you for the match baldrick52.

That concludes EMA for me this season. Not quite the royal flush as grumpydaddy snatched one point (
). I hope this british horde army is up for some rebalancing at some point, because frankly, it felt quite overpowered, or then somebody needs to come up with a proper counter-tactics to the swarming hordes.

Division C
devoncop (Arab Bedouin 300AD with Byzantine allies) drew with IMC (Ancient British 60BC with Roman allies).......40% British losses to 56% Bedouin Arabs,
The early stages of this battle were fought around the central slope of the British position and the Arab Cavalry looked to be forcing their way to a win, attacking the British position from 3 sides. As time went on however the expertly marshalled British defence decided to use the failsafe tactic of bringing the Arab infantry into hand to hand combat.
The Arab infantry being pathologically opposed to such unsporting behaviour soon made it clear they were having none of it and in accordance with tradition routed off the field.
The remainder of the battle was then spent with the Arab Cavalry making itself scarce to avoid the British win whilst remaining Arab Javelinmen were hunted down ruthlessly by British chariots.
As night fell the British just failed to despatch the prone corpse of the Arab army in time .
Well played to my opponent who can be considered unlucky not to have a full victory here.

Re: Late Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .
Hi, yes, a very good account of the goings on. A great game as it was really all in the balance till very late on. It has to be said, the new rule on light troops and flank attacks has hamstrung this army. My Warband, Romans etc were pretty resilient. Any any attempt at out flanking by these troops now is no where near as threatening as it was previously.devoncop wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 2:24 pm Division C
