Division C
devoncop (Arab Beouin 300AD with Byzantine allies) beat Swuul (Germanic Gothic Horse tribes 260-492AD) with Dacian carpi allies by an unlikely 48% to 14%
A clash of two "glass cannon" armies saw the Germanic warbands shatter badly in the centre of the fighting whilst for once the Arab army, having elected to bring little actual Arab foot along and rely on their Byzantine infantry allies managed to hold long enough for the mass of Arab skirmisher and light lancer Cavalry to swarm the British lines.
Thanks to my opponent who was done no favours by his Chieftons...

Re: Any questions . . .
The different core sections have different army sizes, e.g., Biblical and Early Middle Ages having Large while Early and Later Antiquity having Medium. Is there a reasoning behind this, or are these merely the... "rules"?
Furthermore, does it change between seasons?

Just to give some variety. No, it doesn't change from season to season.kronenblatt wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 5:10 am The different core sections have different army sizes, e.g., Biblical and Early Middle Ages having Large while Early and Later Antiquity having Medium. Challenge1 - Dacian 89-106 AD with Sarmatian 25-375 AD allies defeated SawyerK - Roman 285-312 AD with Armenian 253-476 AD allies 63-41
Carnage! A victory but at what cost. The Sarmation cavalry managed to keep the Roman Cataphracts out of the battle long enough to let the warbands destroy the weaker Roman troops. It was touch and go for a lot of the fight and a lot closer than the score indicates.
Thank you for the match!

Division D
Challenge1 - Roman 105-25 BC defeated SawyerK - Pyrrhic 280-275 BC with Samnite 355-272 BC allies 40-11
A stalemate for half the battle where both sides manoeuvered and took up defensive positions before deciding that a little fighting might not be a bad idea. Unfortunately for the Pyrrhic army it proved to be just that, as the legions managed to break a couple of pike blocks and snatch an undeserved victory at the death.
Thanks for the match!

Division C
Challenge1 - Arab Conquest 638-684 AD defeated devoncop - Andalusian 756-1049 AD with Spanish 718-899 AD allies 50-24
The superior spearmen of the Arabs were the difference in this battle. The Arab army pushed forward on the left as the Andalusians retreated and once the skirmish line had been dealt with, swung right to take out the mixture of spears and archers stationed there.
Thanks for the match!

devoncop (Cimmerian 750BC with Thracian allies) drew with Sunnyboy (Syracuse 550BC with Kyranean Greek allies)......score at nightfall ...37% Syracuse losses to 33% Cimmerian.
In truth only the presence of a large forested area into which surviving elements of the Cimmerian foot fled after initial reverses saved the Cimmerians from another pummelling. The Cimmerian Cavalry looked after number 1 as always and kept themselves well away from harm thanks to the absence of any meaningful Syracuse Cavalry presence and nightfall came along to cover the shame of the Cimmerian commander's "tactics"
Thanks fo Sunnyboy for another thought provoking game.
