Voluntary procedure for those "difficult to arrange" matches
If the committee can bring your attention to certain provisions contained within Rule 6 of the Competition rules regarding "Player Etiquette". They are . . .
i) It is expected that all matches will be completed within one month of their starting date.
ii) Please notify the tournament organisers if you are unable to contact an opponent or if they fail to make a move in a match in progress after 7 days have elapsed without explanation.
What we have found in previous large tournaments is that some players have trouble completing all their matches because of unresponsive opponents. Sometimes players will drift away from a competition in the later stages leaving 2 or 3 matches un-played and it means that players who want to complete their matches waste a significant amount of time trying to get them started. The committee's view is that players who have accepted an invitation to join the FOG Digital League are making a commitment to complete all their fixtures by the deadline - and if there are players who decide to stop playing then they are unlikely to be invited to participate in future seasons. By taking a firm stand on this issue we believe we can minimise such problems in the second half of the season and thereby increase the enjoyment of the competition for everyone.
So, first of all, if you look at the two provisions that have been listed above, you may notify the committee of any breaches if you feel you can make no further progress with your opponent. If a match has run on longer than a month, or if an opponent has not moved for more than a week without explanation then please tell us so that we can intervene. If the player does not respond to us as well then we do have the power to adjudicate matches so that conscientious players do not waste any more time.
In addition, players may use this voluntary procedure in the second half of the season in situations where they cannot contact an opponent (starting from November 16). This covers any match that still has not started . . .
i) A player may issue a challenge on the forum and clearly mark it "1st challenge". The player should also send a private message (PM) to the opponent and copy it to the appropriate convenor as well.
ii) If there is no contact from the opponent after 7 days, the player should issue another challenge on the forum and clearly mark it "2nd challenge" - and they should send another private message (PM) to the opponent and copy it again to the convenor as well.
iii) If the match has still not started after a further 7 days then the player should report that fact to the convenor so that the match can be subjected to adjudication by the tournament committee.
In this way, players can be certain that they will not have to experience the frustration of repeatedly trying to get their games started when someone has no intention of playing. Once the committee sees that a "2nd challenge" notification has gone up on the forum we will also start trying to contact the player as well.
