Mounting tensions in the Battlefield Europe + Locarnus Addon youtube playthrough by HerzogSieg.
70% Player prestige and +1 AI strength are tough.

- It is now turn 8 and Helmunt Lent just went down with his Bf 110 heavy fighter unit near the channel. RNG is unforgiving.
- British corvette units are pummeling a 1 strength submarine after another was just lost. Can it still escape?
- After some Italian losses the outer perimeter of Tobruk has been breeched, with a Matilda II appearing on the horizon and the British fleet bombarding the diminished Africa Corps.
- Great progress on the Eastern Front, though time is running out for the Kiev pocket. Can ground units close it on their own or is a daring paratrooper jump necessary for the last position? Before 20 angry Soviet units are unleashed.
Will the Axis push survive the coming rain, mud and winter?

Hey Buddy, I recorded 2nd broadcast this weekend for Warsaw and have just started the 3rd, but see that I am 3 turns from actually finishing the scenario based on their units going whole hog out of their entrenchment in order to push back on me. Warsaw is a bit of a cake scenario so now I have to try and bleed them out for more exp and kills before this finishes. I am hoping to be able to send you my saved core by Wednesday.

Sorry for the silent broadcasts as of late, but that is all fixed now and you will hear a stark contract starting in Warsaw Uprising.

Yeah, some situations are now resolved, some have gotten a lot worse.
He has only very limited experience with Panzer Corps, but lots of experience with other turn based hex wargames.
Which makes it even harder to adjust, since he has to first unlearn and then relearn many habits and priorities that work much different in the games he is familiar with.

Eg in Panzer Corps it is relatively much more punishing to lose units. Since full strength replacement with normal reinforcements currently cost only 25% the new unit prestige costs. And repurchasing a lost unit is not discounted like in Strategic Command.
Or the resupply rules and so on...

Which makes this a new perspective for me.
Compared to the veteran Panzer Corps players usually playing Battlefield Europe.

The initiative hero on vonThüringen and the d2 hero on RayCaster were a shock. :shock:

Still no towed AT, but not sure if useful for Budapest 44.
The newly introduced PzA /Sd 250 lineup is a great replacement for the Kradschützen/Sahariana, though I'm not sure about the best heroes. The unit type has recon move when in tank mode.

Raunosavolainen can now upgrade to the full strength Tiger II B+. The Jagdtiger r7s8 has too low rate of fire to be really useful, even with the r8s8 upgrade in the first scenario of 45.
Kapl might reach 4 stars using the Sturmpanther r8 for training. Expensive to do so, but a 4th star will help in later 45.
PanzerVorwärts and Reoguru would be ready to take on something else, in order to get more kills and thus the second heroes. Though could also just stay what they are a bit longer and wait for 2nd hero.
One of the Möbelwagen can become a Wirbelwind.
RayCaster I have no idea how to upgrade. Range hero combined with defense hero?

The airforce situation is imho a big question mark.
The first bonus SE hero fighter in the first scenario of 1945 will be in a Bf 109 K-4+. And that new bonus SE hero fighter will need lots of training due to difficulty.
So technically one of your existing core units could use the K-4 for the last scenario of 44 and the K-4+ for the first scenario of 45 (since the hero joins after turn 1).
But from the 2nd scenario of 45 onward your existing core unit would have to switch to something else, if you do not want to deploy a K-4 alongside the hero K-4+.
If you want to deploy CouchOffiziell in a Bf 109 for Budapest 44, you have the 3 choices.
The G-14+ GP has the best air attack & costs the least, the G-10 is the compromise in the middle, while the K-4 has best initiative & air defense.
Please make sure that CouchOffiziell does not get an initiative hero for his second slot!

I have no idea what vonThüringen should become.
That initiative hero is a waste for everything but fighter, but his experience is way too low for a good fighter in 1945.
And there is not enough time left to properly train him with a strat bomber to eventually become a fighter (and perhaps not even enough prestige).
It is probably best to simply ignore the i1 hero and consider it a wasted hero slot.

RMA901 is ready right now for fighter duty, with that all important 5th experience star (which only for a fighter gives the stat increases of i1 a2 d1, better than any rng hero).

Slender1870 has two initiative heroes, but also not enough experience to become a good Me 262 (though much closer than vonThüringen).
Perhaps Slender can gain enough experience in the next 2-3 scenarios for fighter duty.
Converting him too early to Me 262 is a massive waste since then he perhaps will not even reach 5 stars for Berlin, but not using him for a fighter is also a massive waste.

I would reload for any further initiative 2nd hero, except for the coming bonus SE fighter.

The Ju 88 P-4 is a nice ground attack option, but should not distract from the vital interest of reaching 5 stars with as many air units as possible.

BE 2.5 was just released!


It will most likely take quite some effort to make the Locarnus Addon compatible with BE 2.5.

1) Until then, I will very soon publish a hopefully final update for the Locarnus Addon which is still only compatible with BE 2.4.
Incorporating many but not all the lessons learned so far thanks to HerzogSieg youtube playthrough.

2) After that, work on BE 2.5 compatibility will begin. Don't know how long it will take.
Multiple updates were needed for BE 2.4 compatibility, after the Addon was originally written for BE 2.3...

HerzogSieg not being a PzC veteran provided a new perspective.
So based on that there are already many improvements almost ready.

Yep, d3i1 is nice, but not at the cost of that 5th experience star.
I do not know if vonThüringen can still get a 5th star until Berlin, and if it would be worth it to try.
If you really want to try for it, then vonThüringen would need to become a strat bomber right now and train in strat bomber mode in every single scenario.
1) Make vonThüringen one of the Ju 88 that can switch between fighter and strat bomber mode (eg Ju 88 G-6).
2) Deploy vonThüringen on an air field and switch his Ju 88 G-6 to tac bomber mode. Then upgrade him to Ju 88 A-4+ and then switch to strat bomber mode for training.

In 45e1 there is a new Ju 388, which can switch between strat bomber and underwhelming fighter mode. But I would not wait for that since it is so important to start training as soon as possible to have any chance for that 5th star.
So from 45e1 you can train with two Ju 188 and the Ju 388 in strat bomber mode. Ju 388 has the same hard and soft attack as Ju 188 when in strat bomber mode.


Prestige is also starting to run low, with a very expensive Me 262 upgrade dropping it even further.

If you want a Me 262 for Budapest, imho only RMA901 makes sense at the moment, since he already has that 5th star and needs kills. Though his a1 hero is not great. But there is still the option to savescum for a good 2nd hero.

What is your intended fighter deployment?
Do you plan to purchase a Me 262 for RMA901?

I am not sure about Me-262 yet. I kind of want Slender but he is not ready. I might use RMA once he loses his os in Budapest. In other words, deploy RMA as is, and when he gets attacked for his weak fighter stats, then change him to Jet. To start out that way seems not my playstyle.

Thuringen will do fins as is, I will fight with 2 Bf's in 45. Thuringen and the bonus SE.

Richard and RMA have a lot of catching up to do, but once they get 2nd heroes I will probably start prioritizing ones that could maybe get 3rd heroes.

The air war has been my greatest struggle this whole campaign and much different from other playthroughs I have done. It has made for some great learning opportunities for my playing and may change how I approach the West when I finally tackle that one.

About the tanks...Rauno is fine as the 8 str Tiger 2, I think changing someone to the other Tiger 2 holds merit.

I was thinking something along the lines of either Singer or you Locarnus or maybe get really nuts and make Raduku a Tiger 2. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :shock: :shock: :shock: :twisted:

Kapl as a Sturmpanther? Really? You have to sell me on that.

DoktorG StuG4? Gives me 1 more ammo, and he is just losing his shine as StuG3

Hm, this is the list of end game fighter aircraft types up to Berlin, plus the Ar 236 strat tac bomber. Pretty much all other tac and strat bomber types are already available in 44e12 Budapest 44. And I will think about pushing Berlin redux further back, but not sure how much:

Oh, second Tiger II?
If Rauno stays as s8 Tiger II at least he can now get rid of the rate of fire 9.
I would feel bad about Raduku not being able to use the r1 hero.
Lots of prestige still needed for all the aircraft, but another Tiger II would certainly help on the ground.
Imho the air war could be the bigger problem, on the ground there is at least defensive artillery to reduce losses.

Kapl has only 3 stars. The Sturmpanther is probably his best bet to reach 4 stars in a timely manner. Though it is rather expensive to downgrade him.

Ah, yep, StuG IV is certainly better than StuG III for DoktorG.

Hi Locarnus

I finished Western DLC 42-43 with your mod.

In Tarento scenario there's a DFS 230 used as pure recon unit, it is fully grey.
Maybe another one to change such as Me 323 discussed earlier.

I am happy to have finished it since it is far less funny than Eastern DLC's or even Western 1944 or Western 1945 DLCs.
This is due to DLCs design, not your mod (from 1943 the player is condemned to lose units against overwhelming forces, is is the same in the Eastern DLCs you will tell me but I prefer the Eastern front in 1943, great tank battle in Kursk, ...).
About US icons:
I'm not good with graphics, practically not much beyond basic cut and copy.
B29 and A26 I guess the brown camo is wrong?
I can see the 90mm M1A1 anti-air gun having too elongated features (base and barrel) compared to the wiki article.

I'm not too familiar with how the majority of US units should look like in this time period. The colors are probably off due to art design? Similar to the gray of the German tanks being a lot more bluish in real life, if I remember correctly, but that would clash with the terrain colors.

I will wait for BE 2.5 for new graphics.

Syracuse, I mean US icons look. Brown icons of original Panzer Corps US units are usually replaced by other icons (see BE version 2.5 perhaps, or AK mod). Icon change is important for the main Panzer Corps campaign (so not only DLCs).

I am well aware that use of your mod based on BE 2.5 will take most of your time and therefore US icons is not a top priority...

Shouldn't it be the same in your mod ? I changed a ME 109 F2 to a Me 109 G6 in 1943 but it had 4 stars (strength of 14), it was brought back to 10, so I had to waste 4 turns in game to get it back to 14 -or using cheat codes-). Pilot's experience is not changing because he/she has a new aircraft (especially belonging to the same line/unit type). It is also valid for me if a Me 109 is changed into a FW 190 or a Me 262. What is your standpoint ?

I will replace that Taranto recon hero DFS 230 unit with a Fw 189 without hero. Much better fit for the recon role.

I hope to release the final BE 2.4 update later today or tomorrow.
And then start taking a look at BE 2.5. First in terms of compatibility, but then also in terms of icons.

Hm, it seems that in BE 2.5 overstrength stays with a unit even if an out-of-family upgrade is done.
While so far the overstrength should stay only if an in-family upgrade is done.

An in-family upgrade from 109 F2 to 109 G6 should not result in you losing overstrength in any version of Panzer Corps!

The problem with the new BE 2.5 mechanic is, that it can be exploited with the Addon unit roster.
Eg there are very cheap units in the Addon, like the Kübelwagen and those Fw 189 aircraft.
If out of family upgrades do not erase overstrength, it would be efficient to downgrade to those cheap types, give the units max overstrength and then upgrade to an expensive unit.

But I'll have to first check on BE 2.5 compatibility anyway, before being able to take a look at that.

It incorporates much but not all of the feedback so far from the ongoing BE + Addon playthrough by HerzogSieg.
It also takes some of recent discussion in the Battlefield Europe thread into account.

Arty and AA units can now capture flags!

There are now map markers for the bigger bottom mine spots (above 5 strength) and map markers for the British Chain Home radar spots.
New difficulty preset "Heinrici", for 70% player prestige plus 1 enemy unit strength. Same setting that HerzogSieg uses on youtube.

The Dnepr bridge near Kherson was removed and is only established in late 1943.
So players might need another bridge engineer for Ukraine.

Several changes to the fighter units.
They are deployed differently and have much more heroes.
But some start out understrength and there is one less German fighter unit in 1941.
Those few fighters initially deployed against the West have a free respawn until after the first winter, but their heroes stay lost (except Marseille hero in Africa).
Some more gifted units in the early to mid war, but some more conditions for some of the later gifts (eg some now given only when losing).

When will the submod for the first four maps of the new version 2.5 be ready? Or are you only planning on making global changes to the 99th turn battle ?

My first priority is compatibility with the 99 turn scenario and the other campaigns (original, grand campaign, africa & soviet corps).
Second priority is the feedback gained from the HerzogSieg youtube playthrough of BE main scenario with Addon. He plays version 2026-04b and 04c only implements most smaller aspects of the feedback, but not the significant change I'm once again thinking about.

Thus the four early maps of the BE campaign have rather low priority. So it might take months rather than weeks before I get around to them.

I’m talking about the first four maps for the Wehrmacht, which serve as a warm-up before the 99-turn battle! I won’t even mention the additional official add-ons and DLCs for now, because you’ll have to put in a massive amount of work again, but it’s worth it )

Yep, those 4 BE warm up maps are low priority at the moment.

Since most players go directly for the BE main scenario anyway.
I want to take some time to look at the changes made to those 4 scenarios by BE 2.5.
But I can only take some time for that, after the higher priority technical compatibility stuff is dealt with.


Neubaufahrzeuge would be a nice gimmick, even though there were only a handful of them.
I like those cute little tankettes and special vehicles, but very limited time for that at the moment. :wink:

I did some initial compatibility testing with a new install of
Battlefield Europe 2.5 + Locarnus Addon 2026 base version + Locarnus Addon latest update.

So far I did not find any major compatibility issue, just some graphic changes to adjust to.
Until I have time for further testing, I still recommend using the older BE 2.4 as a baseline, if you have that.

Locarnus Addon update 2026-05 is backwards compatible with an install using the old BE 2.4.
It also seems to be compatible with an install using the new BE 2.5 as a foundation.


I reuploaded the Locarnus Addon 2026 base version, but without any content changes.
I only renamed its folder from "Battlefield Europe v2.4 Locarnus 2026 base" to "Battlefield Europe v2.5 Locarnus 2026 base". So that it does not look strange eg for players using the new BE 2.5 and the Generic Mod Enabler.

This is only an update to the Addon and requires the 2026 base version of the Locarnus Addon to be installed already on top of either BE 2.4 or BE 2.5 and the bugfixed PzC patch 1.32 first. All previous updates to the 2026 base version are included in this one.
