This is shaping up to be the best season ever. Many new players and the return of of many top ones. The divisions look as competitive as they ever have. Cant wait to see who will reign supreme in classic A. A great mix of lists choices in all divisions that has been influence perhaps by the debates on Med. vs. heavy as I see a lot of balanced choices. First time I've seen players required to make a fifth selection (biblical). I'd like to echo nyczar's sentiments. I can't remember a time when I've been so excited about the start of a new season. I'm looking at opponents I've played before and been soundly beaten by, others I've been lucky enough to triumph over and others who I have either shared the spoils of victory with over a number of games or who I have never faced before.

And I have yet to lose a single battle in any section. I have a 0% loss rate. I need to savour that for the very brief period of time it'll remain the case.

And, what a great job you've done again, Pete. It is much appreciated - thank you!

I have a serious problem though.....for the first time ever I have entered four sections and despite only getting a pick between 7 and 9 out of 10 I have got my first choice in all four categories. This leaves me with the nauseous feeling of not being able to blame the organiser as I go on to get ritually slaughtered in all four sections

Yes, that's right. I have added you to the small chart in this thread so you have a reserve place now. The tournament starts on Monday and within 10-14 days I should know if anyone is a non-starter. There is one player ahead of you at the moment in EMA and two in LA, but sometimes things change very quickly.

How is army selection done when in reserve?

There will be the 9 players still playing in the division who have their armies chosen right from the start. Basically, a reserve will be offered the full list minus the nations represented by those armies already taken by the other players. There is no need for a reserve to choose 4 armies. As an example, the Classical Antiquity recruitment thread is here, if you haven't seen it already . . .

I am happy to be a reserve for anything that comes up, but I am probably better off in a lower league to start with. I'll take anything that's going though. Either player may set up the challenge in this section. Remember to PM your opponent as well as placing the challenge and password in this thread.

For matches in this section players will select "Open Battle" and will field a "Medium" army (1200 points) and choose a "Medium" battlefield unless otherwise directed. Players are free to customise their army before each battle so "Default" is the correct Force Selection option. Terrain will always be "Pot Luck" unless otherwise specified. There are no exceptions to this standard set-up for a match. If a match is set-up incorrectly for any reason then it must be re-started as soon as possible.

Players will need to have both the base game and the Immortal Fire DLC to enter this section of the tournament.

The final % scores for each player are taken from the in-battle display in the top left-hand corner of the screen and not the Final Losses screen that appears after the battle has ended where losses are adjusted for wounded and deserted troops.

Reporting the result of a match is the responsibility of the winning player. However, if you are the loser in a match and notice that the result has not been posted within 24 hours please post the result yourself. This helps to keep the league tables up to date.

Please note: armies are 1200 points for this section.

Matches in this section are played to a tighter schedule and must be prioritised above matches from other sections. Please start all your group stage matches by Sunday June 14th and finish them by Sunday July 5th. . The knock-out matches will be allowed around 18 days for completion. Unfinished matches will be subject to adjudication.

Paired games ("mirror matches") are now used throughout this section of the tournament. Groups will now consist of just 3 players and the winner of each group will progress to the semi-final knock-out stage.

Either player may set up the challenge in this section. Remember to PM your opponent as well as placing the challenge and password in this thread.

The final % scores for each player are taken from the in-battle display in the top left-hand corner of the screen and not the Final Losses screen that appears after the battle has ended where losses are adjusted for wounded and deserted troops.

Reporting the result of a match is the responsibility of the winning player. However, if you are the loser in a match and notice that the result has not been posted within 24 hours please post the result yourself. This helps to keep the league tables up to date.

Where players finish with the same number of points at the end of the group stage, the points aggregate from the matches between those player will be used to decide the final places in the group table. If this does not separate the players then lots will be drawn to determine which player(s) proceed to the next stage of the competition.

Please use the following format when reporting your results . . .

Division A

hidde (Romans) beat stockwellpete (Carthaginians) 50-25

It is very helpful to me if we all get used to reporting the results in the same way, so please report the score as 50-25 rather than 25-50 when you have won. This avoids much confusion when discussing match situations by PM with regards to adjudication or some other issue regarding the rules of the tournament.
