Div A
Triarii Andalusian 756-1049 with Spanish 900
defeats
markleslie Khorasanian 821-1003 AD with Dailami
score 17-45
A lot of movement before both forces came to grips.
Masterly protection of Khorasanian elephants allowed them to avoid the Andalusian missile troops and punch a hole in the Andalusian right trampling the Andalusian General who fell off his pony early on. But then the elephants turned left away from the Andalusian centre. Meanwhile the Khorasanian impact Dailami, some with the edge taken off by missile fire, did not have good first charges and were then ground down by the mostly Andalusian veteran spears. The collapse at the end was sudden, just after the elephants wrong turn and only 3 turns from nightfall; two Andalusian units had the cheek to rally at the very death. A very tough close game and definite lessons from my opponent in moving pachyderms.

Triarii Castille/Leon (1200-1319) with Granadine (1244-1319)
defeats
random27 byzantine 1155-1204 + crusader 1155-1291
Score 45-62
The Castillians were feeling an early advantage after injudicious pursuits by half the Crusader knights, of routed light troops, left the mercenary Crusaders exposed to flank attacks and rout. Sadly the over-excited Castillian C-in-C then died fighting some lowly bowmen dismaying almost all his surrounding troops. Unfortunately that included their flank protection which went straight to rout and the, newly disrupted, Castillian line was rolled up in the pursuit by horse archers. After that a fragmented and chaotic battle was probably only decided by the remaining Byzantine Knights pursuing for longer, having started later. So the Byzantine quality were still a couple of turns away while the remaining Castillian knights had returned from their pursuits and were finishing off raw spearmen and bowmen.
Good game and so very very close. Many thanks to random for yet another tough marginal game.

Division D
SawyerK leading the Macedonian 355-329 BC army with Greek 460-281 BC ally
defeated
countykgamer and his Macedonian 260-148 BC army with Greek 227-146 BC ally
by 48-7.
The older Macedonians won a medium-foot battle on the left flank, while refusing the pike-laden right. With the left flank turned, the younger Macedonians experienced a cascading series of failures that led to the end. The battle was much more close fought than the final score indicates.

We had a bit of a mix up and when the tournament first started my army was listed as Frankish, instead of Byzantine. This battle was already underway when the confusion was taken care of; so we decided to finish up that battle and post results.
rpadilla1988 (Frankish 751-887) defeats Alexstandish (Visigoths 419-621) 26-54
It was a battle to the nitty gritty, with a large river cutting off the map to Frank right flank. The franks used this river as an anchor point for a large body of spear units extending far to the right. And behind the main body of spearmen on the right flank were cav. The Visigoths brought with them large numbers of noble lancers and warbands. Using skirmishers as screening units the Franks were able to grind some numbers down and close the distance.

Defeats (barely)
tyronec Egyptian 570-525 + Kyrenean Greek 630-461 allies

Desperately close game.
Egyptian spearmen and hoplites gave up early but very effective chariots and very effectively handled massed bows wreaked havoc until the legions caught the bowmen.
Many thanks for the game.

rpadilla1988 (Crusader) defeats Bagatrix1805 (German imp) 40-8
The crusaders found themselves on the favorable end of the field, with heavy woods and rough ground to their left; open desert to the right. The crusader army placed crossbows within the woods, and pavisiers with spears to the right; with cav and knits shoring up the flank.. but hidden within the woods to the left were crusader horseman (turcpoles, nomands and knigts.)
The battle started, the Germans heavy with infantry; crossbows and brigands ready to assault the woods; spearmen and heavy horse ready to take the open ground to the right. Storms of bolts struck through the air with both sides taking casualties, and the Crusader pavisiers getting battered but holding to the right. When the time was right the crusaders struck, the hidden cav bursting out and on the left taking quick opportunity to secure the win for the battle on the woodline.

Morat (Frankish) defeated (technically) Garokan (German) 61-55
Horrible terrain dominated by broken hilly ground. Franks manoeuvred to strike at the German right: leaving forces to delay the German left. Very nearly worked to secure an early victory: but the Germans rallied - leading to an incredibly close battle which the Franks only just got over the line on.
Thanks to Garokan for the game.

OmegaOm has been dropped due to a lack of response to challenges and PMs from players and the coordinator. As none of his games were played, they have been voided.
Otherwise, folks have been pretty active, with a few almost finished.
