Round IX: phase 3. Byzantine Orders

Post by kronenblatt »

The Byzantine Player gives orders to his armies.

SnuggleBunnies: how would you like to use your two armies, given the Enemy Movements above?

Also, once you've agreed between Byzantine and Enemy Players on which army lists and map terrain to use for the battles, please post those details here, and then you're good to go for the actual games. :)

What do you say to:
Middle Eastern Agricultural in Palestine
Mediterranean Hilly in Anatolia? Or Mediterranean Agricultural?

As the Mongol, I would avoid hilly ground and fight on agricultural or plains.

Yes, and as the Romans, I would avoid open country. Perhaps we let kronenblatt do a coin toss?

Middle Eastern Agricultural in Palestine - Agreed.

Armies - would suggest:
Byzantine (Central) vs Mongol (Ilkhanid) - that looks to be the most 'Asia Minor' Mongol army.
Byzantine 1072-1154 0r Byzantine 1155-1204 (Snuggles choice) vs Arab N. Africa 1038-1160 - given that we are in 12-13C and the Arab army is coming from Egypt.

Agreed on Ilkhanids 1230-1353 vs Byzantine Central, tho an alternative would be to do the regular Mongols this turn and the Ilkhans next for more variety.

The Arab (North Africa) list description specifies that these are the armies to the west of Egypt. For Egypt itself, the Fatimids 1074-1171 or Mamelukes 1250-1339 would be appropriate. I'd say Fatimids just to get some variety in on my side.

Fatamids are go, which Byzantines do you want ?

And for the Mongols go for Middle-East. It is almost the same as the Europe one anyway.

Perhaps then Mongols Middle East vs Byzantine (Nikaia) this round, and next round we do Ilkhans and Central? Nikaia because it is in Anatolia and overlaps with the Mongols ME list in timeline, unlike either of the bracketing central state lists.

The cowardly Arabs declined to attack the Byzantine host and a draw was accepted by both sides.
Maybe the Mamluks will have a little more courage !

SnuggleBunnies (Byzantine) defeats Karvon (Mongols) 41-16

The Byzantines refused to break formation, and repulsed the eventual Mongol attack thanks to concentrated arrow fire.
