SawyerK with the Gallic army defeated angusosborne and his Macedonians by 60-38.
The Gallic army began the match with all their warbands massed against a river vertically dissecting the map and their cavalry and chariots on the far left. The Macedonians led the attack while the Gallics heavy foot dithered, afraid of the mass of pikes arrayed against them. The Veteran Pikes proved unstoppable, as the Gallics had feared, but good fortune (alright, luck) allowed the Gallic extreme right to hold long enough for a breakthrough in the center by their Superior Warbands. Flank attacks from that breakthrough then led to the Gallic victory.

I think it should be recorded for posterity that my centre was squishy medium foot, which I couldn't find a way to shield.SawyerK wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 1:30 pm SawyerK with the Gallic army defeated angusosborne and his Macedonians by 60-38.

SawyerK (Macedonian army plus Greek ally) has issued a challenge to
dim30 and his Kyrenean Greeks, and it has been accepted. The password for the match is 'Kyrenean'.
Note that the EGL 300 army list has not been updated to reflect the completion of my match against angusosborne and the resulting switch of our armies.

SawyerK with the Macedonians defeated
dim30 leading the Kyrenean Greeks by 43 to 18.
The score does not indicate the precarious position for the Macedonians at the end with the Greek hoplites and heavy chariots crushing their left flank. The Macedonians only survived because of good fortune in backing up three units without disruption and the resultant delays in the Greek attack allowed the wing to hold just long enough for a breakthrough by their central pikes.
My thanks to my opponent for a well and fast played game over a holiday weekend!

I just remembered I have a PM from Aetius39 saying that he will be away from home beginning 18 June and doesn't expect to be playing much. Might be better to challenge someone elseLuciusSulla wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2023 1:23 am LuciusSulla (Greeks) challenges Aetius39 (Spartan).

Re: Ever-Green League - 300 BC
LuciusSulla (Greek) defeated angusosborne (Gallic) by 41-11
The Greek army, composed mainly of hoplites, avoided engagement with the Gallic warbands in the first half of the battle. The hoplites tried to extend into both flanks with their numerical advantage. The right wing's attempt largely failed due to interference by the Gallic cavalry but the left wing succeeded. Gaps started to appear in the Gallic army, in their attempt to cover the extended frontline. The Greeks took this opportunity to engage and maneuver into flanking positions through these gaps. Eventually cutting the Gallic army into small surrounded pockets and won the battle.

Re: Ever-Green League - 300 BC
Karvon's Samnites defeated SawyerK's Kyrenean Greeks 44-14.
A chain of steep and gentle hills and a stream dominated the center of the field, greatly restricting the Greeks options. Their main body of pikes backed up by spears on flanks and rear, and cavalry and chariots on each flank, slowly marched forward in the center, but stopped well short of the higher ground to await our attack.
We initially deployed the bulk of our foot to seize the high ground with a small cavalry command supporting our left. We had a small foot and horse command we held hidden on our right, but as it became clear the Greeks were not going to move up, we marched that along the far right in a wide flanking move. After screening the advance of our mediums, our light foot screen shifted left to assault a smaller steep hill across the stream which we could use as staging point for further flanking to our left. Supported by a small medium foot command, we cleared this after a brisk fight, destroying or sending off the opposing enemy lights and one peltast which tried to hold it.
The Greeks moved up to contain our troops on the hill and their main line extended along the lower gentle slopes towards the center with a few spears refused to cover their right and a couple of cavalry and a heavy chariot as a deeper reserve.
We shifted a large number of our mediums and lights, supported by our cavalry, and pushed strongly against the Greek right while continuing to threaten and fix his center from the slopes of the steep hills. Our small flanking force on our right also continued it's long march and this drew off some of his troops, in particular his horse and chariots on that flank, preventing them from reinforcing the growing threat on their right.
Our flanking forces on our left turned the Greek right and we got enough disruptions and overlaps to crumple the flank shortly before nightfall.
