Vietnam 65 unbiased comment

It is 1965 and the US ground war in Vietnam is in full swing. As a US Army commander, wage a counter-insurgency (COIN) war to secure the Ia Drang valley, on the border with Cambodia.

The game is a short form wargame, no campaign etc

We are looking at designing a campaign once the launch is totally bedded down , busy with an update to improve UI and replayability first :)

I've been able to rack up many of the medals, any tips on how to kill 100 enemy units?

far as i can tell, the 100 enemy units KIA'd may not be required all in 1 game ( i hope i'm right on this point) if thats the case...KIA's are cumulative, you'll receive that medal over time.

It is all in one game, combined total of VC and NVA, maybe set a little high, I will check it :)

Maybe remove 'enemy' in "Kill 100 enemy units."..
but it may become easy for gamey player: let kill your own toons.

I've had a few days to spend a lot of time with the game and I've noticed a few things.
- There is a graphical glitch, where after combat has occurred in an area (say an airstrike) you will occasionally see the shockwave effect pop up every now and then until you end the turn.
- NVA/VC do not attack the main base, even if you beg them to (see pic).
- The player should automatically loose the game when they have no more units and no money to buy any more (see pic).
So far I have really enjoyed the game and look forward to seeing the first update. Might I suggest adding more medals/achievements: Army Commendation Medal, Stetson, Spurs? I also lost a game on purpose to see how big Charlie gets, and well

Thanks for the feedback. :)

The HQ doesn't come under attack in V65, this would effectively end the game, your thoughts ?

Medals etc are on the list, oak leaves etc , but quite far down the list of priorities

I think you will enjoy the update.....

btw, i just won my 3rd mission, figured what i was doing wrong, i was playing way too sheepishly. i needed to get alot more aggresive
and iirc, oak leaves arent medals, theyre rank badges

Good job on the mission, if you don't get aggressive Charlie certainly will :)

Was referring to awards for multiple medal earnings....

I see what you're saying about the HQ, but I feel like there should be a threat of it (maybe something for further down the road).

You are quite correct, but when we kept to the authentic colors you could not easily see the units on the background (camouflage classes are mandatory..) , so we used a little poetic licence to improve game play...

We are frantically busy implementing the update, can't give exact timing but within weeks is the best I can do right now.

Lots of improvements like hex overlays, village and unit naming, weather plus a few more we managed to sneak in

This game is (has become in its late developpment..) conceptual rather than realistic. I always felt the starting HQ was a symbol of the afar GHQ, protected already by distance and guards not under our command. In many games the scales are mixed.
So, Maybe it has to be explained ingame, to all understand that, instead of feeling a not very good design.

im not talking about cammos...cammo fatigues were highly uncommon in 65...I'm referring to early war fatigues, they were more like garrison fatigues, the shirt for instance, is tucked into the pants and made of a heavier materiel...more like this:
