Looks like tiebreaks for me and lydianed. I'm guessing this is going to be VERY close - we have had virtually identical tournaments, splitting our mirror games and having the same score against each of the other players.

Re: Immortal Fire tournament - main thread/post results here

The pool stage has been extended a few days to let Batesmotel finish up his games after losing his computer for a little while.
ALL remaining games will be adjudicated this Friday so please finish them up or ensure you have posted all results on this thread.

batesmotel (Skythian) 29/53 beat tofman04 (Thessalian) 57/54
The Skythians won on one flank while they delayed on the other and their Thracian allies held their own in the woods and swamp in the middle of the map.
Our mirror match game is one short of tofman04's Skythians breaking so should go the same way. Thanks for the games.

Re: Immortal Fire tournament - main thread/post results here

No major adjudications here. I awarded a win to Batesmotel over Tofman04 based on how their remaining game is going, and awarded a previously unreported win to PeterAbb. The rest were adjudicated as draws.
Two tie-breakers to decide playoff spots were as follows:
Yuknoom 32/52 +37/37 = 69/89 = 77.5% defeats Lydianed 38/38 + 46/59 = 84/97 = 86.7%
PeterAbb 26/55 + 53/50 = 79/105 = 75.2% defeats Rexhurley 54/54 + 34/57 = 88/111 = 79.3%
Please begin above playoff matches. You have 2 weeks.
Thanks to everyone who participated and has been eliminated. I will be starting another similar tournament in the next few weeks based on Eternal Empire so be on the lookout for that.

Re: Immortal Fire tournament - main thread/post results here
I'm not complaining, because it makes no material difference, but is it normal to adjudicate a match as draw when one player has posted the challenge twice and the other player hasn't picked it up?
Does that not risk encouraging people to avoid playing players they know to be stronger?
Best Wishes
Mike

Re: Immortal Fire tournament - main thread/post results here
It is possible that a player could avoid a stronger player and pick up the point for the draw, but I do not think it is likely. The majority of the time, it seems to be other factors (lack of time, forgot, poor communication) which result in unfinished games. While usually one person is more to blame than the other, I only really adjudicate a win to a player if that player is either a) clearly winning or b) has shown definitively that they tried numerous times to contact player to join their challenge and were ignored. In these tournaments, that means, I receive notice well in advance that a player is not picking up a challenge and not responding for a long period of time. Pete and others I'm sure adjudicate games otherwise, but unless it's really clear one way, I don't tend to put too much time into figuring out who is to blame, but leave that to players to document/inform me.MikeMarchant wrote:I'm not complaining, because it makes no material difference, but is it normal to adjudicate a match as draw when one player has posted the challenge twice and the other player hasn't picked it up?

That being said, there were a lot more unfinished games during this tournament than I would've liked (many of them were just result of Batesmotel's computer dyingI'm sure) and I think I'll track challenges not picked up a little better. It is pretty easy to check board earlier in tournament for these challenges, and send out a message for updates earlier than I did this tournament.

Pool D
Boggit Alexandrian Macedonian 12/37 vs mcpeake Carthaginians 48/48
A bit one sided, not Joe's fault at all. The Alexandrians are really hard to face with a suitable matchup with Carthage. Frankly Joe did well with what he had, but even using the terrain well was doomed.

hidde(28th-30th Dynasty Egyptian) 68/64 vs Jonathan4290(Early Gatae) 68/68 DRAW
A rough ride. I got to choose the map(in both games, actually). An open plain with hills on either flank.
My troops on the flanks ended up a jumbled mess, especially on my right. Well, I fully expected to make up for that when my main battle line of HF
made contact with the MF of my opponent.
But the heavies got thrashed badly from the outset. It looked like the disruptions should snowball out of control.
Somehow a few HF held on despite the many routers and won their fights in a couple of places. One BP shy of loosing when I started the last turn
my archers managed to eke out a draw by getting the last three BP needed.
Great game

Re: Immortal Fire tournament - main thread/post results here
In something of an upset-
Yuknoom's Greeks 48/52 defeated voskarp's Syracusans 58/56
Yuknoom's Syracusans 43/50 defeated voskarp's Greeks 58/58.
Both games classic hoplite brawls - we hit 50% the same turn, hit 12 pips to go same turn etc. The one big difference is that he went for numbers with the Greeks eschewing the Spartans, thus breaking what I always thought was the first commandment of FoG - see Spartan, click on Spartan.
Thanks for two really good ones, and good sportsmanship.

No problem. I can't predict who I'm gonna play, but I can predict he's gonna beat the crap outta me. - YJonathan4290 wrote:Hidde and I are also just finishing up. Apologies to Eric and Yuknoom for delays.

Not a problem. It's all down to who wins initiative anyways.
