Advice needed!

Somehow we've ended up playing two different versions of the battle! The one I put up, with me as Athens, has a Persian army of 64 BP, and their right wing is slightly curved back. I'm pretty sure it was the first version listed on your page.

The one Eric put up has the Persians at about 59 BP, and their line is perfectly straight.

Also, my version has Persian objectives (wagon cart symbol) sitting just behind the Athenian centre. They are not there in Eric's version.

Which is the correct one?? :)

Correct one is the top file, the one where the persian shields are immobile and there are objective points.

edit: so Londo has the correct file.

The Battle of Marathon is over!

Everything hinges on whether the Persian centre holds. In my game as Persians, the centre did very well, and two units in fact survived through to the end. I got most of the archers to the boats.

Londo (Persia) 45/64 - Ricoual74 (Athens) 44/44

In the other game, Eric was very unlucky with the Persian centre, and his right collapsed almost instantly too. I held back on the other flank, which was well covered by shield bearers, until the very end. Only one hoplite unit was routed in the whole game!

Londo (Athens) 2/44 - Ricoual74 (Persia) 64/64

Thanks to fogman, Eric, and all my other opponents.

Paul.

in order to win, the persian player needs to get those objective points in the rear and initiates a fighting retreat. trying to stand up to the greeks is suicidal although i'm shocked by how little damage the persian centre inflicted.
