Fogman - not sure about "destroying" opponents, had chats with players and they realised their mistakes and everything worked out for me, it is just one of those games where everything went well. I was being "destroyed" when I started but I learnt by my mistakes, the old learning curve thang.

A very bloody battle where casualties on both sides were high. The Gothic army was on the verge of defeat with a lot of units fragmented left on the battlefield on its conclusion.The Ravens will feast well after this mammoth struggle and the Gothic bards will tell tales of the brave fight of the Avars for years to come. The Lombard deployed a wide sweeping manouver with its lancers to get behind the Byzantine flank.
The remaining Lancer and Saxan HF where able to hold off the Byzantine onslaught on the front
line until the flank lancers began to defeat the weaker rear units of the Byzantine army and surround the remaining army.

not for the lancers getting around behind you it would have been a lot closer ,
even then i thought you might make a comeback.

Crunch bash crash game with both right wings destroyed I suggest though Mike spread out as much across the map and you would have had me.

Ian and I are duking it out but I have a feeling my time maybe up in that one all depends on Ian's and my next turns respectively

another balls grinding battle made particularly difficult by a couple of costly failed rear attacks. the avars had massed all their lancers on their right, exposing their infantry heavy left. while the lombards left wing went down fighting, and the centre held on grimly, the right wing made a big enough mess of the avar line to collapse it.

Lydianed (Maurikian Byz) 18/36 bt. Mike48 (Ostrogoths) 42/39

Dominant feature was the line of trees and ponds stretching across two-thirds of the battlefield. Byzantines parked their squishy troops in there and made it hard for the Goth lancers to make their way thru' the unfavourable terrain. Massed Byz cavalry on the left wing broke the smaller Goth force. Honours even on the right flank but the slow moving Goth HF couldn't make contact with the more nimble Byz cavalry and make their presence felt.

Too much Byzanthine cavalry was engaged in melee near a swamp. In the other side Avars have superiority and can smash the enemy.

Yes, you will be playing all your games against gepids. you are free to build your armies according to the restrictions.

In a clear open field of green grass a free for all game with both sides swapping rear charges produced a wide spread and a real mess of a battle ,
the Lombard Saxon HF did there job today against the MF javelinmens and the dice gods where with the Lancers.

You can't use the visigoths since nobody used them. You can only use the army your opponent used (but you're free to change the composition). So when you play me, i'm gepid and you're lombard.
