The pub is available on the 26th May, so unless any of the other bigger competitions announce dates for that weekend that's when we will be aiming for folks.
That's a shame - I can't make that one :(

Hi all,

Attached are the year to date results after the 2nd, Clevedon, round of the 2013 FOGR 1 Day Southern League, with 3 still to go.

Unsurprisingly, Alasdair Harley leads the way after his clean sweep of victories in the first 2 events. With the themes in these events favouring the "horsey armies" (except for my pedestrian Hawaiians!), it should be no surprise that the "Master of Horse" that is Alasdair, is in front. However the next 2 rounds, ECW and Italian Wars, favour foot armies and so we'll soon see if Alasdair is as good on 2 legs as he is on 4!

Behind Alasdair though, it is very close with the next 5 players from 2nd to 6th being covered by only 4 points. Remember, for the final league result, you do get to drop your worst score so if you've missed an event you can still make a dent in the leaderboard and if you've missed 2 - who cares! Each day is a separate event and great fun in it's own right and 3 fun games are guaranteed.

So far we've had 32 players involved and looking at the entrants logged for the London round, there will be another 7 new players!! What a great game this is!

Hi don,

Byron and I are at the Southampton Club (round 4) and we are pairing up for Attack this year.... which rubbish army to pick from a list of rubbish armies is the question.... i think we are in danger of playing 4 games against the same army... lovely....

Round 4 is early period? is there a list of armies to choose from or is it any army between certian dates please?
Same question for round 5...

Thanks
Nigel

The 3rd Round of the Southern League took place on Sunday in Central London, featuring armies from the ECW. Despite 10 of the 16 armies being Scots or Irish, I'm delighted to report that the day was won by a superbly generaled (i.e. lucky  ) Royalist army! Full results and photos are posted by The Madaxeman on another thread in this forum, but to recap the results are as below.

Image

With 3 rounds played this leaves the overall position as detailed on the following sheet:-

Image

So as expected Alasdair is out in front but remember the worst result is dropped. The table therefore shows what the situation is with the worst score dropped. Tim Porter and Don McHugh, get "Umpire Credit" (i.e. The average of their other scores) for their non playing Umpire duties in the London and Clevedon rounds respectively.

So with two rounds left in Southampton and Milton Keynes there is all left to play for especially as Alasdair (The acknowledged "Master of Horse"!) is threatening to use an all foot army in the Irish at Southampton. There are still a couple of places left for the Southampton round and it looks like there will be a full house of 28 players, so get those late entries in now if you are interested!

Hi folks.

Getting my wargaming mojo back after a long break and was wondering about the SL comp - since Oxford was good fun.

What is the position regarding the round(s?) left this year - any places left?

Hi Nick,

For the Southampton round I can lend either a Scottish army or anything else from Caroline, French, German, Venetian or Maximillian. I couldn't do Irish but if you really wanted a Henrician (and I can't for the life of me think that you would!), you could have mine and I could persuade Mr Harley to let me submit a decent army list!

I could lend Nik a Henrician Don, so you could keep your first choice...

I could do an Early Henrician myself by using my WotR figures - heck, I can even dress as an early Henrician:

However, 22nd Sept is a bit short notice and I'm hopelessly out of practice so I'll have to give that one a miss.

Count me in for the MK round in December though please

After the Southampton Round of the Southern FOGR league, the positions with 1 round still to go are as below:-

Image

Despite Alasdair not winning again (he'll blame it on the pedestrian Irish), he maintains his lead at the top and with only 4 rounds counting can only now be caught by me and to do that I have to win the last round and Alasdair finish outside the top 5 just to get a joint 1st - having spoken to Ladbrokes, they have closed the book on who'll win the league! I in return cannot now be caught for second so yet again I am the "Bridesmaid" to Alasdair's "Bride"!

However the battle for 3rd is very much on with Dave Allen, Pete Dalby, Tim Porter and Brian Holmes all in with a shout and all playing at Milton Keynes - the race for Bronze is hotting up.

The purpose of the league though, has always been to have some fun and link the events in some fun way and after 9 months and 4 Rounds, the FODR Southern League has been a great success and we will be doing this again in 2014. Across the four Rounds we have attracted 42 different players including a number for whom this was either a first competition and indeed in one instance, a first FOGR game!! There have never been less than 16 players at any event (and that was in Central London where the venue limited us to 16), with the other 3 having between 22 and 24 players!!

This only leaves the last Round in Milton Keynes on the 1st December to go and we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Full details are on this Forum.

We will post details of the 2014 event on this forum soon, but rest assured, it will be fun, it will be different, it will be competitive but it will be VERY friendly! :D
