Does the winner of Group A play the runner-up of Group B in the semi-finals?

Yes. You are the winner of Group A, in fact, as you won the head-to-head with King Eric (who is the only player who can also reach four points). So double congratulations!

I win my game against Tiavals
Santa hermada 35 / 41 vs Low country 41 / 41
A difficult game that I win only because my troops destroy the nemy camp.
Ciao!

Ciao, Visconte Solly. That was a good result and means you can get through to the knockout stage if you can beat the Swiss in your final group game. Kreivi Tiavals can now fight only for his honour, but that is something I'm sure he will be keen to defend!

My game against the Low Countries is set up, with the password: pike
Re: Festival of Pike, a small late medieval tournament
Tiavals and his Low countries are in my hearts . . . And so... if I win...
A good game to all players: ciao!

What can I say, pikes aren't my specialty.
I was beaten fair and square both times. But I intend to win against the iron duke there!

And so I did.
Tiavals 35/41 vs the_Iron_duke 45/43
I had to assault across a river with my pikes. Not fun.

Yes. It may be too late to see him into the knockout stages, but Kreivi Tiavals has finally found his feet with his Low Countries army. He made an interesting tactical army selection that found favour with the map and which helped negate my own strategy. Thanks for the game!

Battle Report
Turk1964(Burgundian Swiss)23/42 def Solly(Santa Hermandad Neuva Castillian) 41/41
This was a great and challanging game and at first the Swiss were not up to their usual performance level. The Castallians held the Swiss well to start with but eventually the Swiss pike started to gain mommentum. This was another close game for the Swiss and despite the final score it could have gone either way. Thanks for a really good game Solly. Cheers Turk

Re: Festival of Pike, a small late medieval tournament
And so the Swiss juggernaut rolls on. It appears that I have scraped through to the knockout stages by the skin of my teeth. My battle against Visconte Solly produced the closest result of the tournament so far. That battle could have gone either way and if it had so much as ended in a draw then it would have been the Castilians rather than the Venetians going through.
With Group B now decided and the winner of Group A also known it means one of the semi-final line-ups is now revealed. As runner-up of Group B I will be playing Group A's winner, Lord Pete of Stockwell, noble commander of the Ordonnance French contingent for a place in the final.

Re: Festival of Pike, a small late medieval tournament
Quick update with Fedem and my game.
It is turn 10 and nothing has happened, not even a single shot?
I have deployed (redploying where needed), way back from Fedem. If I move up to close he can shoot with longbows and fall back into some fields behind him. If he comes forward, he will have to advance a fair way and then I'd be bale to catch him with cav.
I realise a draw is sufficient as I would have the same points as fogman and as I won our game I would take 2nd spot. Likewise if Iwin the game it would mean I'll still be runner up in our group, as pete and I would be on equal points but he beat me.
So there is no real point of me advancing, probably committing suicide in the process, losing and not ending up as runner up.
We are about 10 hexes away from each other and have been that way for probably 5 turns?

Re: Festival of Pike, a small late medieval tournament
I have put the challenge up for our semi-final, the_iron_duke, password is "semi-final". I think it would be polite to wait until Eric and Federico have finished their game but is sounds like they might agree a draw shortly.

I should imagine it's like Clint Eastwood and Yul Brynner facing off in the Mexican heat.ericdoman1 wrote: It is turn 10 and nothing has happened, not even a single shot?
Yes, let us wait for their titanic metaphysical and esoteric contest to run its course.stockwellpete wrote:I think it would be polite to wait until Eric and Federico have finished their game but is sounds like they might agree a draw shortly.

Re: Festival of Pike, a small late medieval tournament
(esot)Eric 10/40 vs Fedem 36/36
Fedem decided to make a game of it and bravely attacked. The combo of good foot, cav and sup kn was just to much for the courageous Burgundians on the open plains.

Re: Festival of Pike, a small late medieval tournament
All hail as o dicer man 1, ericdoman1, takes the last semi-final place. The upcoming battle between the Swiss and the Danes has the makings of a classic semi-final match...irresistible force versus immovable object and all that.
So, just three matches left to decide who will become the champion. Who will emerge from the carnage wearing the treasured plume d'or...?
With every silver lining, though, comes a cloud and that is the sad passing of four great heroes, four mighty warriors - outstanding commanders whose soldiers let them down on the field of battle. Kreivi Tiavals, Comte Fedem, Visconte Solly and Baron Fogman - we salute your warrior spirit and your dedication to the cause. Thanks for taking part in the tournament, the inaugural Festival of Pike. Maybe we shall clash swords on campaign again, and perhaps even in another of my own organised tournaments, of which another will follow shortly.
Well, there are better players than me that haven't made it this far but I unexpectedly find myself in the rarefied air of the knockout stage. I shall try to summon up the spirit of Denmark in 1992 and Greece in 2004 and, against the odds, pull off an unexpected triumph that will put Venice on the map forever! Will probably lose to stockwellpete's Frenchies in the next match, though...

Thanks for the tournament, it was fun while it lasted. I'll never get used to these darn pikes.

A reminder to ericdoman1 and Turk1964 that you have a semi-final to play.
