OK, it's a fair cop

Sadly finishing 1 point behind the winner of my pool makes me team bunny

I suppose I will just have to cope with it.....

Great weekend though (apart from the 8:30 start on Sunday and then the long wait at the end with all the games finished and the results on the wall)
All my games were really good fun, the one against Dave Handley was despite the eventual 10-10 result chock full of onterest and really tight judgement calls.

P.S. Massive congratulations to the man with the big cahones Paul Cummings who took a medium foot, impact foot army to a knight and light horse dominated theme and came out with the best score. Really really well done Paul.

Perhaps everyone will now try to find a way to stop those dominating medium foot impact foot from running away with averything

I keep telling people that Impact Foot is the right choice with Almughavrs ...

My first return to Derby for many years and a great competition extremely well run by Marc - thank you!

4 great games too vs RBS, Simon, Ian and Bob - who needs Ottomans?

Well done to Lance & Richard - our first outing as a team and 2nd place despite our very tough first round draw vs the authors.

I don't mind an early start but shame about the long wait at the end - definitely needs to be slicker please.

Thanks for the comments everyone and I'm glad you enjoyed the weekend. I will definately put Sunday back by half an hour next year to try to synchronise better with the other competitions

High light of the week-end Dave Rs car breaking down - rumour is it that one of the Derby Lady Boys p***ed in the tank.

Dave's car breaking down was quite amusing but not a patch on the car problem Mr Charlton had a couple of years ago.

Picture the scene, Stevie C walking back to the carpark trophy in hand

Stevie's mate: Err, Steve, is your TVR in the main carpark?
Stevie: Yes, just near the steps
Stevie's mate: Is it meant to be on fire Steve ?? :O
panic ensues and some time later Stevies somewhat scorched car is hauled off to Blackpool to be rebuilt.....

I though Mr Brandon's comedy bandage deserves a special mention as well. He injured the middle finger on this right hand, which was swathed in a huge bandage

Great event, with a very strong field of players. Not many wolves noticed coming in from the sea ... mainly cavalry fights.

To say I "enjoyed" the first day would be a tad masochistic - I have just finished melting down the dice. Pain apart, it was still enjoyable being thrashed by Lance and Roger! Well done to both for playing fine games and getting the run on the dice. Andy and Phil on day 2 were also both excellent games and had me in a slightly less of a state. In the one with Phil we almost managed to get our troops in all four corners of the table by the end, with a fight in the middle as well. Nobody watching had a clue whose BGs were whose, and at times I think we were in danger of getting confused.

Luckilly I excelled at the most important part of a team comp - choosing good team mates! Terry and Richard between them carried me to a (much undeserved) share of 3rd place. Well done chaps! FOr my part some bad dice - but probably a bad army choice given what I ended up playing against. We discussed it at the end and "the authiors" will be back to try to improve to 2nd or 1st next year.

PS Most amusing moment of me not knowing our own rules. Never realised that mounted break-off from skirmishers. Had 8 LH vs 5 LF and decided to be agressive and walk a column of MF right up behind both my LH BGs. The LF held and Roger laughed as I couldn't break off with either and as a result I went disrupted with both. Very funny and it lost me a LH BG. Roger thought I was doing it as a cunning agressive move, having carefully weighed up the risks. Nah! Just didn't know what I was doing.... how they laughed

I'd like to add my thanks to Marc and everyone else for a great weekend. As with Pete it was my first time in Derby for a number of years and I look forward to returning in the future.

FoG is mainly a horse boys game, if people actually want infantry based (or at least more balance between infantry and mounted) comps then these need to be set up with a list of allowable armies not list books that may be used.

Can we have a proper biblical theme for next year? Possibly even one that bans those nasty armoured Assyrians?

BTW, I massively prefer themed comps to open and I think that this year was the best Derby comp I have ever played in.
