Roman Mid-Republican Campaign

Greetings citizens!

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that our forces failed to win the fight with Spartacus army (we missed a draw by one point, the enemy having lost 53 of his 54 points!).

However we must be grateful for small mercies and rejoice that the notorious Spartacus now lies dead on the field of battle.

Casualties were remarkably even (Slaves 24430, Romans 24750) given that the enemy forces again were far more numerous than our own (Slaves 63000, Romans 53500)

It may well be that having lost their leader and all their experienced fighters, they may disperse and trouble us no more ...

But I do not feel that this is how we should leave matters! Rome is not, and never has been, a place where defeat is accepted as a satisfactory outcome. We have always risen to the challenge, answered the call, raised the spear once more, and taken the fight to the enemy!

I call upon all right thinking citizens to grant me the honour of commanding our soldiers once more, and leading them to victory by seeking out this war-torn enemy and through battle, banishing him from our shores!

The soldiers at first were stunned by the boldness of the enemy but when the Consul fiercely remembered how many times swashbuckler Gallic chieftains had adorned the triumphs of Roman generals they were inflamed and eager to attack battle.
when the barbarians surged forward shouting their noisy "barritus", the legionaries, without fear, steadfastly advanced in a perfect silence, so implacable that the enemies trembled in their hearts loosing confidence and morale.
