Round 4 (190-140 BC): Battle resolutions

2.2. deeter as Roman 199-106 BC with Greek (Western) 280-49 BC allies (1680 FP) attacks Africa with Aetius39 as opponent (1600 FP).
3.1. dim30 as Roman 199-106 BC with Numidian or Moorish 341-56 BC allies (1680 FP) attacks Aegyptus with Aetius39 as opponent (1600 FP).
3.2. dim30 as Roman 199-106 BC with Greek (Western) 280-49 BC allies (1680 FP) attacks Achaea with deeter as opponent (1600 FP).
4.1. Doyley50 as Roman 199-106 BC (1720 FP) attacks Achaea with dim30 as opponent (1600 FP).
5.1. kronenblatt as Roman 199-106 BC (1675 FP) attacks Africa with deeter as opponent (1600 FP).
5.2. kronenblatt as Roman 199-106 BC (1675 FP) attacks Narbonensis with Aetius39 as opponent (1600 FP).

Please note
  • The defender selects an army list from the TT Mod v1.5.32b, whose time period overlaps the current round's (190 - 140 BC) and whose geographic location fits the attacked province.
    • If the Romans historically had conquered the attacked province in full by that time period, there will be a civil war battle, using the same Roman army list for the defender (albeit without allies).
    • Please use a generous, friendly and constructive approach, both when it comes to selecting army lists (especially as defender) and when it comes to approving or disapproving such army lists (especially as attacker) :).
  • The defender thereafter creates the game (with himself as Side B), using the TT Mod v1.5.32b, posting in the campaign thread and PM'ing the attacker.
  • The attack will take the form of a Custom Battle:
    • Scenario: Open Battle.
    • Turn limit: 24 turns.
    • Map size: Wide (40x32).
    • Force size: as per above (i.e., the defender always 1600 FP).
    • Map type: as per above.
    • No map re-rolls will be made.
  • The winner, or the player having incurred the fewest casualties, reports the results in the campaign thread.
  • Battles to be concluded and reported within a reasonable time period, let's aim for six weeks, i.e., by October 22 at latest.

2.2. deeter as Roman 199-106 BC with Greek (Western) 280-49 BC allies (1680 FP) defeats Africa with Aetius39 as opponent (1600 FP). 62-56.

The Africans had the advantage of a deep stream along their front and rough ground on one flank. They also maxed out on phalanxes, bring eight, but deployed back somewhat from the stream. The Romans had the advantage in medium foot though and used the rough both as an avenue of approach and a way to channel the pikes into a narrow front.

This worked out pretty well but the fight swayed back and forth for a long time. In the end, the Africans broke first. The outcomes would have been different without the Roman 80 pt. advantage.

Two Results:

1. Roman 199-106 BC with Numidian or Moorish 341-56 BC allies attacks Cyrenaica, +60 FP. dim30 as opponent.

Aetius (Romans) defeats dim30 (Ptolemaic) 69-40

Very hard fought battle where the Egyptians held out strong and stubbornly. Well-played by my opponent!

2. Roman 199-106 BC with Numidian or Moorish 341-56 BC allies attacks Aegyptus. +80 FP. Aetius39 as opponent.

Aetius (Ptolemaic) defeats dim30 (Romans) 41-16

A bit of luck and some use of the terrain helped the Ptolemaics to a rare win over the mighty Romans. GG!

3. Roman 199-106 BC attacks Dalmatia. +60 FP. kronenblatt as opponent.

Aetius (Romans) defeats kronenblatt (Dalmatians) 47-21

Romans got off to a rocky start, but eventually their superior unit quality overcame the stubborn, tenacious defense of the Dalmatians. GG as always!

5.1. kronenblatt as Roman 199-106 BC (1675 FP) attacks Africa with deeter as opponent (1600 FP).

=> kronenblatt defeats deeter 60-50.

The Romans escaped from this battle with a near-death experience, with their units breaking and scattered all over the map in their hunt of Numidian javelin foot and horse.

It finished some time ago with a victory for Deeter, unfortunately details are no longer available from the records of concluded games and I can't recall much about it.
