When I looked at Processes, fognet.exe was not on the list.

v1.40 is in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.

When I launch either client, I get the message "Launching client, please wait". Then nothing happens.

I have installed version 1.40. After installation the update client will no longer launch. I had never previously tried the multiplayer but it will not launch either.
