Re: Cannot turn unless flanking threat when there is a threa

Thanks for the detailed explanation Richard. So there are no examples of one of these deeper Late Tercio's ever being successfully flanked and disrupted or routed by cavalry then ?

Re: Cannot turn unless flanking threat when there is a threa

I always assumed Later Tercio's were these shallower formations which brought more muskets to bear in the front, or are they something different in Pike and Shot ?

Re: Cannot turn unless flanking threat when there is a threa

I can see how the game mechanics of this are hard wired for flank attacks on Later Tercio's. Surely this goes against a realistic situation though where a tercio may be engaging an enemy tercio block to its front and then receives a flank attack from enemy cavalry at the same time. I'm thinking here...

Re: Singleplayer vs Multiplayer mode

Single player mainly, but I would be happy to try PBEM when I have had some more campaign practice with Pike and Shot and Thirty Years War

Nice tip for the app, but FRAPS is way easier to use and set up for recording game video on a Windows PC http://www.fraps.com

Philip Rollo or The Scottish Musketeers by James Grant. Originally published 1875 and mainly a tale of the Scottish mercenaries in Denmark 1626-7, but Tilly and Wallenstein plus others put in an appearance. Free here ......

The Battlefields of Germany by Colonel G.B. Malleson 1884 - Old now and replaced by Guthrie's two volumes on the Thirty Years War, but still a good read.

Re: Free Web Resources - reference books

The Dutch Army and the Military Revolutions 1588 - 1688 by Olaf van Nimwegen. This is the definitive work on the Dutch in the 80 Years War and full of interesting stuff on the pike, shot, cavalry, artillery and siege tactics of the day. You can only read the first 50 or so pages online via Google Bo...

Re: AGEods Thirty Years War

It always struck me that the overall strategy of Ageod's TYW married with the Pike and Shot battles would' be the perfect game combination - kind of a more historically accurate Total War game. Sadly I don't think you can transfer results between the two.

Re: Thirty Years War In-Depth Scenarios

Good to have some more news on this title. The scenarios look well chosen and I'm really looking forward to this. Still cannot quite believe we will have two Thirty Years War titles in the space of a year, it's been a long wait !

Re: Pike and Shot suggestions

Hi all Haven't been on the forums since the Legion Arena days, but just picked up Pike and Shot Campaigns and thrilled to have a PC strategy game covering the Thirty Years War at last :D One thing I have noticed while playing through the tutorials is the lack of a rotating overhead map view (M hotke...

Blimey  Not the old RTW/LA debate again. I know unbiased viewpoints cannot be expected on any fan forum, but there are merits and deficiencies in both RTW and LA. I can happily play both for what they are without any particular favouritism for either. RTW is grand strategy and empire building ...

Nope - you just lost my interest there, I won't be buying a copy of that. If I wanted to play with demons, goblins, ghoulies and the like I would get one of those RPG games or some of that LOTR trash. Such a shame you moved away from the historical stuff and couldn't simply add to what was an alread...

Any battle which has to be won in generally less than two minutes will be a tough one. I didn't find Cynoscephalae all that difficult for some reason, but I did have lots of high stat heavy infantry by the time I got to that battle the first time round.

They changed the timing on it  I missed that. I kind of like it how it was because it feels great getting past that one, even if it does take a dozen or more replays. I did it on the very last second. On Very Hard every battle feels like Grannacus :?

Place your best stat heavy troops opposite theirs. Make sure you have skirmishers and militia (preferably with the elephant attack specialist upgrades) placed opposite the elephants and make sure you target them at the elephants.
