Re: Nestor's Spearmen

Yes, excellent account & photos.

And I'll also ask for tips on using the Late Mycs.

Re: Soft sand

They would do nicely.

He's dribbled something on the base or used cardboard cut-outs. I'll give it a go.

Thanks for the link.

Soft sand

SS is, of course, a terrain type for arid terrains. To be honest, I’m not sure what it exactly is, let alone how it should look. Up to now, I’ve used a naff piece of felt but feel I need to make several examples in a pleasant & suitable manner. The terrain type BTW is “meat & sandwiches” for...

Re: Nestor's Spearmen

So good? Bad? Indifferent?

How would you raise a Mycenaean army?

Nestor's Spearmen

For the Later Mycenaeans in the "Swifter Than Eagles" book, an optional troop type are Nestor's Spears. I've opted to add 2 BGs (just finished) to my army. This means 2 X 6 bases of Heavy Defensive Spears (Protected) with a third rank of 3 bases of medium archers. I've done this partly bec...

Re: Archer bases

Thanks for the replies.

One of the things I have always liked about FoG is the tactical nuances. Thinking them through (& running drills when I have time) has enlivened many an hour.

I will go with the 8 bases: easy enough to drop two if circumstances suggest otherwise.

That's a pity. Both would have been very useful.

No knights in the Bronze Age (unless you think Heavy Chariots).

Archer bases

I'm not sure whether to go with 6 base or 8 base MI archer BGs.
So tactical flexibility Vs fire power?

Any opinions?

Naval supplement

I'm curious: has anyone ever considered adding a naval aspect to the rules? My little group did for the Bronze Age: http://bennosfiguresforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14421&p=164621&hilit=invasion+ochoin#p164621 It began as a way of using a flank march but naturally (much like aerial warf...

Subsidary weapons for chariots

I'm working on two Bronze Age armies & I'm not sure about subsidiary weapons for chariots.

Specifically, NKE chariots are, of course, bow armed. Do they get light spear for melee?
Equally, Later Mycenaean chariots are light spear armed. Can they throw javelins as well?

round bases

Hello, I'm new to FoG-R (though I've enjoyed Ancients for some years)

I'm creating a Swedish army & want to know if circular bases are OK

Thanks.
