Re: Caracole III - Rules & Discussion

I have had a bit of slow play recently (work, bah!) but will be back in the swing of it now. I can't see challenges from Hrothgar or Hutze - I'm not using Campaigns so wonder if this is the problem? Cheers. That's strange. I see both our games under the tab "enemies turn". I'm using norma...

Re: Infantry don't charge horses.

Maybe don't allow infatry to attack cavalry but let the infantry force a fall back movement on the cavalry without the cavalry loosing cohesion?

Hutze 9.7 Ulysisgrunt 4.6 Cheers Danny Weitz Thanks for the laurels, but I don't deserve them ;-) You won the game two weeks ago, playing the English. Re: Caracole III - Results Thread Round 2

Group B Hutze (Scots) won (10%) 9.6 pts vs majandro (Parliamentarian) (46%) 1.0 pts The Scotish forces had the advantage with good cover from hedgerows. After an initial standoff and some rounds of skirmishing on my left flank the advancing Parliamentarian army got beaten by Scotish firepower. Thank...

I don't believe that keyth has played a Group B game yet.
I've got no response from keyth to my challenge

Re: Caracole III - Results Thread Round 2

Group B w_michael (Swiss 1494-1515) (16%) (8.9) beat Hutze (French 1494-1525) (45%) (1.6) I was fortunate that a French pike kiel and two cavalry regiments chased a broken Swiss halberdier regiment for most of the battle after the first round of combat. That allowed the French pike line to be pinne...

Re: Caracole III - Results Thread

Group B
Hutze (Parliamentarian 1642-1643) (19%) 8.7 pts won vs cromlechi (Royalist 1642-1643) (46%) 1.9 pts

Parliament made a wide flanking move to avoid the Royal horse. Better firepower carried the day for Parliamant.
Thanks for the game cromlechi!

Re: What about the Great Northern War?

After all these years it's very nice to hear that someone actually played this stuff ... Thanks! :) We have to thank ;-) I've had my fair share of fun too with the Napoleonic scenarios. With age of rifles and the operational art of warfare being my favourite wargames, every couple of years I power ...

Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2

Pod B result

Hutze won (Catholics 1632-38) 20% vs. 49% rumguff (Ottomans 1630-48)

After much manouvring a charge of Catholic veteran horse into the rear of the janissaries wiped out most of the Ottoman line.
Thanks for the match rumguff

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II

Another pod 1 result: Hutze's French 1643-48 (15%) won vs susji's Spanish 1635-48 (40%) The battle played out in a similar way like my first battle against flatsix. The Spanish positioned themselfes on a solitary central hill in strong formations. The Spanish horse deployed on their right flank. Aga...

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II

Pod 1 result: My closest game so far... - Hutze (German Catholics 1639-48) 61% won vs guillaume (German Protestants 1639-48) 62% The Protestants deployed most of their foot on their left on top a hill. Their horse deployed in the clear on their right. My Catholics mirrored this deployment, having on...

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II

A pod 1 result: - batesmotel French 1643-48 (17%) won vs. Hutze Spanish 1635-48 (44%) The battlefield was divided into an open plain on the Spanish left and some wooded hills on the right. Therefore most of the French and Spanish cavalry was deployed on the plain, where the fight started. The Spanis...

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II

Another clobbering in pod 1: - pantherboy's Protestants 1639-48 (14%) won vs. Hutze's Catholics 1639-48 (40%) The battle was fought on an open field. pantherboy deployed his army in three mostly equal parts (left, center, right) and was therefore flexible in countering my movements. It ended in a mo...

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II

Another pod 1 result: - Hutze French 1550-59 (5%) won vs. susji Spanish-Imperial 1543-59 (70%) The French general forgot to bring his firepower. But it didn't matter, since most of the battle was fought over a small stream in hand-to-hand combat between the French keils and the Spanish tercios. The ...

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II

And another pod 1 result: - kmaher Catholics 1619 (39%) won vs. Hutze Protestants 1618 (64%) The battle was fought on top of a wooded hill. Quite claustrophobic without much room for movement. I thought this would be advantagious for my tercios, crashing into the enemy line and win the day by close ...

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II

Two results of pod 1: - flatsix518 German Catholics 1639-48 (56%) won vs. Hutze German Protestants 1639-48 (64%) The Catholic veterans were deployed in strong position on the central hill of the battlefield. A Protestant frontal attack didn't promise any favourable results. Therefore my infantry mov...
