Feeding bases and the restricted zone

Hello - I'm still trying to learn the rules and got a bit stuck with this problem last week...

Is feeding bases into melee affected by the restricted zone of a BG?

We had a situation like

AAAA XX
AAAA
BBBB
BBBB


BG A was fighting BG B. The rightmost elements of B were not involved in combat ...
