I have my Roman Auxilia based on MF bases with HF numbers (still undecided as to which way they should be used) while the Lanciari that are always MF are 3 to a base.
That seems to work fine for me.

I prefer historical opponents or at the very least something that seems believable to me.
Still, I would rather play a game than not play at all so I will generally try to get as close to historical as possible then just play whatever that is.

I think what confused me is that for impact foot that is pretty clear "unless the foot are charging shock mounted", but the wording for the light spear is different just referring to "unless charging shock mounted" and this made me worried that there might me a different meaning ...

I have so far played 2 games of FOG and I would just like to clarify something:
Both Impact foot and Light spear have an exception to their impact POA referring to "charging shock cavalry".

You can base the latter four to a base if you really want to but I think that was intended more for those with regular bow DBM elements who didn't want to rebase.
