Obviously battle strategies depend a lot of terrain and forces. That said, my favorite strategy is to use cavalry to flank the enemy, and charge up the middle with infantry at the right moment. Don't forget that the Aeolians were considered the backward/semicivilized Greeks. The Dorians were a warrior culture that invaded Greece in about 1000BC (I think).
