i just finished the second sector after allying the Kaa and vapturing the pirates. At the start of the 4rd sector, i get no ship icons, no information on my government or anything. The only thing i can do is send a fleet of unknown composition to another star.

looked it up again, the free techs are gained for the second demanded tech, not the first one.
