The game uses OpenGL not DirectX. So the issue is not related DirectX...

Its worse. The game does not minimize itself to the task bar as before, it stays in windowed mode, but it "locks up" instantly upon loading/starting game. Could you please try installing the game in a different folder than Program Files (x86)\.... ?
You could install in, for example, C:\Games\....
