Re: FoG R Southern League 2015 - Oxford Round

Thanks to the Oxford folks for a fun day. i had a better result than last year (i.e no heart attack) although I lost all three games. Thanks to Paddy, Keith and Pete for being sporting opponents. I am not an experienced tournament player, and I found the time limits a bit pressurised, particularly w...

Re: FoG R Southern League 2015 - Oxford Round

Bob, I have replied to your email, and also emailed Tom direct to confirm my army list choice. I did not pick up your email until I left work.

Re: FoG R Southern League 2015 - Oxford Round

I will be using a 1644 Scots Covenanter and Parliamentary army; the first, but possibly not the last, time that an English Parliamentary mob has been directed by a group of Scots. I'd like to reassure you, however, that my CinC is NOT a middle-aged blond Scots lady.

Re: FoG R Southern League 2015 - Oxford Round

Depending on whether I am able to borrow some Scots again, I will be fielding either Covenanters with 1644 Parliamentarians, or else just Parlamentarians.

Either way, I plan on avoiding a repetition of last year's post- competition heart attack.

Queries re artillery and regimental guns

The following points came up in my FoGR game today -Early Swedes v Later Imperial Spanish 1. Do regimental guns shooting at infantry get the - PoA for artillery shooting at infantry? 2. Does artillery shoot with any different modifiers at short range ( up to 3") as opposed to long range? 3. Doe...

Re: FoG R Southern League 2015 - Oxford Round

I'd like to book a place, please.

I promise to try not to have a heart attack on my return to London this year. :D

I understand Gordon Jamieson and Dave Saunders are thinking of attending.

Thanks

Re: Southern League FOG R 2014 at Oxford

Thanks for the good wishes, guys. I had a heart attack on Sunday night*, but the paramedic and ambulance turned up within 10 minutes, and within 3 hours of the attack, I had had a stent fitted and was in the coronary care unit. They let me out on Tuesday, and I am now recuperating. I will be off wor...

Query on army lists

If I want to have the option of using detached shot, do I need to submit an alternative army list to Bob before the tournament, or just adjust my army list on the day?

Thanks

Re: Southern League FOG R 2014 at Oxford

Is there anywhere on-site to buy food, or should I bring my own sandwiches? Also, I just checked on Google maps. They describe the postcode as OX2 8AB and the village hall is indicated as on the left hand side of Wolvercote Green off Godstow Road. Can some kind soul confirm that that is the correct ...

Re: Southern League FOG R 2014 at Oxford

Tim, I looked at the Covenanter army lists on the Madaxeman site. I'm not sure the first one is legal, if it's meant to be a 1644 Covenanters in England List, because the Average Scots six-packs are described as musket*, and I thought that only the Poor Scots foote were musket* as opposed to musket.

Re: Southern League FOG R 2014 at Oxford

Bob,

We won't use your version of the prayer book and if you insist otherwise, this means war.

The army uses our Covenanter prayer book for guidance - history 's first ever guided missal :D

Re: Southern League FOG R 2014 at Oxford

I've chosen 1644 Covenanters and Parliamentarians for my army in the competition. I have some units rated as Horse since FoGR doesn't have a"knackered ponies" classification . If we win,(assuming I can persuade them to fight on a Sunday!) my army will hold a prayer meeting rather than a pa...

Re: Southern League FOG R 2014 at Oxford

Thanks, Bob. I am pleased to say that we also have a culture at the Central London Wargames Club of lending armies to other players. When you supply an army to your opponent, you can go home in the happy knowledge that your army won(even if you were not commanding it at the time!) . The only FoGR co...

Re: Southern League FOG R 2014 at Oxford

I won't be at Clevedon for a number of reasons: (A) I know nothing about the eligible armies - Renaissance is not my period of greatest expertise, and the only army I own is a 15mm Pike and Shotte force I picked up on EBay which I have added bits to, essentially ECW Parliamentary but which can morph...
