Despite the interest shown we only actually had one paid up entrant for Napoleonics at PAW as of Sunday 20th Jan.
We have therefore decided to cancel that competition.

Re: Austrians: Tactics
I think it has real consequences. The 2, well 3, unopposed moves by the attacker allows him to dictate aspects of the battle. Also the there is the historical aspect - in 1813 the French tended to attack, not the Austrians. I would suggest that if the opposite has to happen then something is not qui...

Re: Sequence of Play
Mike - the errata says:
Page 24: RH Column/Movement Phase - 1st Bullet: Delete the last 2 sentences “He must move any and all units that are ‘in command’ first. He may then attempt to move units that are ‘out of command’.”
I take it that you now move whichever you choose first,

Re: Austrians: Tactics
I am getting a sense (from 4 games with the rules, using French (1812 & 1813) against the Austrians (1813) that: -Austrians need to be very aggressive. If they sit and wait for the French, the French have the luxury of wheeling artillery and troops up to just within 6MU, without fear of charges...

After first game at weekend I agree.
We really need a good QRS with page numbers to more detailed info from the rule book.

Re: Army List and Label Generator - for Download
Wouldn't open in 2003 so downloaded Open Office (thanks to Mr. Cutner for the tip). Maybe it doesn't work perfectly in OO though. Still can't get new army button - thanks for trying Blathergut. And on drop down menus, if I try to change something the only other option to the thing written is "o...

Re: Disadvantaged troops
Historically, Marmont, Massena, Soult, Ney and Nappy himself pushed French armies against British infantry and came off second best. British infantry in this period were second to none, yet they are inferior to French, Russians and Prussians in these rules, despite costing the same in points. Consi...

Re: Disadvantaged troops
Re page 133 or so... Austrian Infantry move as unreformed, fire as reformed & are costed as unreformed. Seems they get the best of both worlds, cheaper & just as effective. Yes, that's what I thought too and the Austrians then looked viable but then I saw the correction in another thread. I...

Re: Disadvantaged troops
Appreciate the time taken over your reply Mike and I appreciate the undoubted depth of knowledge which has gone into the rules. Austrian infantry though performed very well on numerous occasions and were not the useless whipping boys many imagine them to be. My argument though is a wargaming one. If...

Disadvantaged troops
British, Prussian, Russian and French fire at 6 inches but Austrians at 2! With other disadvantages of being unreformed I can't see queues forming to fight as Austrians. Which is a shame because they look good on the table. I would be happy to use my Austrians at the club and get my troops from the ...

Re: How many figures?
I reckon I can get an army together, based on what I've seen here. Thanks to all for that. May have to make a combined Austro-Russian force, as happened in 1813. Could anyone say how many skirmisher bases per unit, are required? My Grenz unit, for example - would I need to make one skirmish base or ...

Re: Britcon table size - time for something new?
I quite like the idea postulated earlier in this thread that perhaps table size can vary. If both players want 6x4 then 6x4 it is. Same with 5x4. But if one wants 6x4 and the other 5x4, then it gets diced for. A small move in the direction of supporting armies not based on large amounts of skirmishe...
