Sorry guys.
But 3 years on, and Mantic have released a cracking ruleset (Kings of War) which will do for me.
So best of luck and hope you get a better response from Slitherine.
Cheers.

Last year we tried a game treating Undead as plain Superior without capabilities. They don't do a great deal of damage, but they do tie up the opposition for a variable but often significant length of time. If you make them unbreakable, they are basically flypaper that locks down the opponent for t...

Artillery range . Can i suggest you double its long range but keep its effective range the same. And allow heavy artillery to pivot on its center, as it cannot move. Converting rules I dont play WFB, but why try to copy so many special rules from the original ? Do they make the game any better as y...

Looks like you had a great game. :) Thanks for sharing. We also have tried a Dark elf army with these rules, and came to the same conclusions. (ie counting repeating crossbows as longbows and dino-riders as Knights.) I also agree that artillery ranges are too short, we will change that next time we ...

Here is a picture.

note we were using the bases on their 3"side (see other topic)
The orange D8 behind the lines denote spells still to be cast.

We tried this out today with 700point armies. Beastmen vs Undead. One thing we added, after a bit of dicussion before the game was that the auto-break of the undead would be as Elite troops , i.e. 60% losses. It worked well, and seemed to be fairly balanced , neither side showing to be totally overp...

50 lurkers and no comments. Time to add a few thoughts. Taken that a BG has a thousand men ( or skeletons/zombies) . How could one necromancer control an army of 10 BG ? Lets guess that each BG is led by one of the Necromancers henchmen (an apprentice necromancer ?) And when the BG is reduced to one...

Undead
Has anyone playtested undead .
If so , what special rules did you use ?
I am going to run a test game soon , the idea being this:
Undead cost as Elite troops.
Undead count as poor troops when fighting.
Undead don't take morale tests...the only way to remove them is destroy them.

I am sure the Napoleonic and Renaissance rules will add changes to the rules, so I don't think we should shy away from doing so, as long as you don't make the game overly complicated. i agree, but the fantasy ruleset will need a lot more variation than historical periods. We will need extra rules f...

We normally play it that a Troll/Ogre/Blackscale lizardman represents 3 or 4 normal size miniatures. Lets say a BG of Blackscales has 6 bases. We would depict it as 6 miniatures on 3 doubledepth bases. Lose a base...lose a miniature. So although the miniatures are side by side, they are really one r...

The Dwarf waited till the two battlelines closed and then Conjured a Monster...the Snakeman dispelled it. Tim...

NAWC magic rules
Our quick and dirty D&D magic system. ( North Ayrshire Wargames Club) So here are some ideas for a magic system in line with Dungeons and Dragons. Wizards cost 10 points + 10 points per spell. Maximum cost 50 points. (level 4 wizard) Wizards are not bases they are upgrades to a base, when the bas...
