Re: Vehicle costs and scenario balance

The WOODS scenario offers the M8 to the Allies, which allows on-field indirect (bombardment) fire. Very useful in tactics for the Allies, and very frustrating for the Germans to receive the fire that can sometimes destroy a Panther from above. Still, the main point is to pound him into suppression ...

Re: Play balance

Hi All, After lengthy deliberation, with particular consideration to all the thoughtful posts in this thread, we've decided not to adjust the game for balance. There are several reasons: 1) Metrics from actual Game Center for the BotB campaign play show 52% Axis victories vs. 48% Allied victories. ...

Re: Awful online introduction - is it just me?

With a few more games under my belt, I am starting to get a better feel for the various scenarios. I've managed to pull off a few wins, but some of the scenarios still strike me as very unbalanced. Cornfields seems pretty much impossible for the Allies. No artillery, no infantry and wide open space...

Re: Awful online introduction - is it just me?

Hi Jarg we had a good pair of games going you and me, fairly balanced although we both made some mistakes too. anyway I'm happy to face you with me as Allies anytime. regards, Justin Hey Justin, Yes, we did, and please don't mistake my comments in this thread for broad criticism of the game. I've q...

Re: Awful online introduction - is it just me?

Now I'm playing Head On as the Allies, and again I just don't get it. The Germans clearly outgun the Brits in this one also, and by quite a margin it appears. Again, why would the designers create such a monstrosity? The worst part is I think the concept is great, leaving me feeling robbed of a lot ...

I should and will. But the games that were available had me playing as the Allies. Is that a coincidence?

Re: Awful online introduction - is it just me?

The 2 scenarios I finished (surrendered to the inevitable) were Buying Time and Urban Armor. I didn't have any artillery in the first, and in fact the German had artillery, and as far as I could tell the Germans had the same artillery and air as I in the second. I certainly wasn't trying to go head ...

Awful online introduction - is it just me?

So I finally bit the bullet and signed on to a few online games. First, in every case my opponent was playing the Germans. And in every case I ended up feeling like I was wasting my time. Now I do not have any expectations that I will start out winning since my only experience is against the AI, whi...

Re: Poor AI?

The AI is awful, but it should only be used as a means to learn the game mechanics, and if anything players should ignore AI strategy since it will only teach you bad lessons. I don't consider this a problem since the game is really meant be be played against other players.

Re: Play balance

For those of you looking to create some artificial balance in BOTB, join us over at QT3. Our scoring system discounts the sitzkrieg, treating Axis victories without touching the Meuse as a draw. Seems to be working! http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?73115-Battle-of-the-Bulge-Mu...

Re: Luck of the Draw Scenario

While I absolutely understand your frustration, still I have played a decent number of games as the Allies in Luck of the Draw and managed to pull out my fair share of wins. The random placement can also hurt the Germans, though I agree it is more likely to benefit them. Same with the reinforcements...

Re: Play balance

I should think the early release of the Brits would be triggered by German defensive play. The trick is figuring out the appropriate trigger. I don't see the necessity of an early British release if the VP value is shifted west, although I could see randomizing the release so that it might occur a ...

Re: Play balance

I've been carrying the torch for reducing VPs in the east for months. But releasing the Brits when the Axis touch the Meuse is the ahistorical situation I was pointing out. Rather, getting to the Meuse should delay or inhibit release of the Brits, since a stronger Axis performance would have provid...

Re: Question about first move with USA

Regarding point 1, in the past I have always made this move if the opportunity presented itself. However lately I've started wondering if this is the best thing to do, because when this has happened to me when playing as the Germans, to the best of my recollection I have always won. The problem is ...

Re: Question about first move with USA

I was actually thinking of starting a similar thread a while back, complete with maps and everything. I thought it would be fun to run through all the possible starting moves and the various pros and cons. I've just not had time to do it with work being so busy. I think there are a whole lot more v...

Re: Question about first move with USA

Hi all, which move do you think that is better in the first round?: 1.- CCA/9 Arm to Bastogne 2.- CCB/9 Arm to Spa Most of the people use to move to Bastogne but in that case, Spa is usually lost. What do you think? I prefer the move to Spa. IMO it makes the German choices much harder on the second...

Re: I really like Endgame

thanks for the great update - I'm really liking Endgame - seems nicely balanced with lots of interesting decision points, and great to have a snapshot of historical positions too; it even plays interestingly with the AIs. I wonder if Bastogne is mostly doomed in Endgame? I like the random scenario ...

Re: Play balance

Let me pose a hypothetical question: if players were bidding for sides would that make experienced Axis players think hard before turtling (making it something rare); or would bidding encourage it? I like bidding as a means of allowing players of different skill levels to play, but I don't think it...
